They are gorgeous!

R2elk...it amazes me how many folks have turkeys just show up in their yard. I know she doesn't fit in your breeding program, but I'd be tempted. She's just very pretty!

If I was to "order" a turkey and a box of them showed up. I might be moving out....

With me it is usually a wild hen. For at least the past 8 years I have had a wild hen show up during breeding season. For at least the past 6 years it has been the same hen. They have always let themselves into my turkey pen without any assistance.

One year after something got her nest she came back and joined my Bourbon Red hen on a nest. Unfortunately when those poults hatched a raccoon found the nest and finished off the eggs once it took care of all the newly hatched poults.

About a week later I sent a .22 in the direction of the point halfway between its eyes. I never saw any sign of that coon again.

R2elk, that's amazing , the same hen for 6 years. So the Bourbon hen had no problem sharing a nest? Do turkeys accept new birds easier that chickens do?

You must go read Ralphs review.

I am thinking I will not be real welcome on the CLB threads right now.
Probably not. Everyone's experiences are different, Legbars are doing great for me, I didn't want to like them and got some rather reluctantly because I found a good deal, but now they are my favorite, or at least tied for first. They are very popular as layers, and for good reason, as far as blue eggs go, they lay circles around my BBS Ams. I originally got 2 pairs for $40 and in less than 18 months made about $1500 selling Legbar chicks. My Reese line birds are even better, both in looks and in laying ability. I paid more for those chicks, but I expect I will make a lot more in sales, so it was a great investment.

That said, I have other breeds that some people absolutely love, but I don't find them worthwhile at all. You should sell your flock to someone else and buy something you love.

Hi all,
I'm new to the turkey side of BYC... I work at an organic farm, and someone dumped/dropped off a mature white turkey hen yesterday. She was waiting by our gate in the morning, all by herself. We have chickens and other animals, but need to set up housing for her. She seems fairly tame and lonely, but didn't get along with our friendly chicken (hen) we put into the temp pen with her. I have 3 Light Brahma pullets (will be large hens) we could put in with her. What should we build for her (and maybe Brahmas?)
