Went out and spent some quality time with the birds today.... turkeys are all fine - it's strange that with all my toms, there doesn't seem to be much snood pulling or fighting going on

My chickens on the other hand - I think my rooster beat the snot out of my barred rock hen. So after coop cleaning, I brought Bessie inside and cleaned up her head. They were all fresh wounds, and DH said everything was fine last night. Amazing how much blood a head wound can make, so she had a bath and blow dry. I learned a valuable lesson about blu kote - wear gloves or you turn your hands a lovely shade of purple My poor girl's head has been plucked bare and big bloody spots all over it. Stripey just earned himself a couple of days in a coop all alone. Welcome home....bath and doctor a chicken, catch a rooster, scoop a pile of poop On the upside, I didn't need a jacket to work out there e

I'm assuming Ethel likes the chicken coop cause it's toasty? Toasty being a relative term when speaking of a MN winter! She sounds like a smart hen!

Are you sure that he didn't say it had a black wing bronze gene? The b1 is the black wing bronze gene. I have not seen anywhere a reference to a black wing bourbon gene.

You can have a Bourbon Red with a bb1 rr instead of a bb rr genotype.

Chaos...are the Bielefeld eggs in this batch?

I didn't end up getting any bielefelder eggs. Got 2 BCM and 14 Dominiques.

I went out to put the turkeys away, They were all in their pen on their own. I counted and I only had 17 in the pen.

As a reward for them being good enough to put themselves to bed, I brought them a 1/2 bucket of BOSS, corn and oats. They jumped off their roosts to eat it. I checked in the turkey house to see if there were any turkeys in there. There wasn't.

I went into the chicken coop when I locked it to say good night to Ethel, She has managed to talk 2 more hens into joining her in the chicken coop.

They did not get treats for being bad turkeys and not going to their pen.


Anyone want to buy a nearly new unused Turkey house? It is not doing me any good,
