A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

JJ looks like a pin cushion with few pins in him he is molting so bad. He has about 6 tail feathers and yet he struts like he is a handsome hunk still....

I went out to get the little Tom Wannabe off the roof of the coop. I did not see him up there tonight. BUT I continued out. when I got closer I noticed Sidekick had his wing out at a weird angle like he injured it. When I went to the front I saw the little guy snuggled up to Sidekick and he had his wing over him. It was kind of raining so I will say Sidekick was protecting from the rain, but in my heart of hearts I know sidekick was hiding him from me...

You can never trust a turkey! It is amazing how the Toms protect and take care of this little guy... BTW I put him back in the pen with his mother and he cried again....And Memphis I am sure you're right he cried himself to sleep, again.

I left my iPad at work for one whole day and had to read many pages to catch up on the happenings tonight lol.

Aurora - we'll expect to see some awesome molting turkey pics soon then? :D

I think one of my boys are starting to molt, he's starting to look pretty patchy in spots. The others have regrown their feathers and look lovely. Strangely the girls have not molted yet. Coco seems to be staying un-broody and I have my fingers crossed that the turkey girls done for the season. Although I have a Cochin who has decided to try being broody again. Dang it - I just finished breaking my buff Orpington's broody mood. Please tell me this broody bug will end one day soon....I feel like they pass it on to the next bird when they give it up.

Ralphie...sounds like a real "bro-mance". There is a broody hen thread. You would blow their minds if you could get a shot of big 'ole Sidekick with that baby snuggled under his wing.

Feisty i feel your pain! Thelma is broody yet again.

Ya'll get some pictures of those molting turkeys for the annual molting contest!

The broody bug really is a pain. I was hoping to be done worrying about chicks this year but both of my silver penciled rock girls have gone stubbornly broody and won't take no for an answer. I tried putting an ice pack under them which worked great before, but when i went out, the ice pack had been heated up to a heating pad :/ I just gave Ana and Elsa 4 CCL eggs each yesterday. We'll see what happens. For Ana, this will be her second clutch this year. She only laid for maybe a week in between. I think both girls may just now be a year old so i think they have a long broody, drive me crazy life ahead lol.

I have one tiny little ccl pullet out there running around that's maybe 6 weeks old now. She's so little, we call her Tiny. She keeps wiggling hey way under the turkey fence and in to the turkey pen. Every time, I hear her screaming and have to go rescue her. I'm so worried that they're going to kill her. Not because they're mean but more like a little squeaky toy running around. It's mostly the young mottled getting her. I wish she'd learn to keep out and I keep fixing the spot where she gets in, but those bratty turkeys keep lifting the fence a few inches to reach out under.

Yes Finnie...turkeys molt.

Ha ha! I meant, do they do it in the fall!

But from all these posts with turkeys molting now, I guess they are summer molters.

Coconut is back to "normal", and not hiding in the baby coop. But he still sleeps there. I did examine him, and his breasts are covered with both pin feathers and broken quills. So I suspect he is molting now too. (He's been trying to molt a new tail in since I got him in February, but it always looks worse and worse, never better.) Now he must be going through his regular molt. I wonder if the tail will finally kick in.

Had an emergency this morning :/ walked in to the coop to key everyone out for the day and there was Queenie, dangling by one leg from the swing I made for them last year. I never took it down because the Palms actualy like it. I have no idea how long she was dangling like that but her leg was completely wrapped in the cord :( she's now hanging out in the living room in the rabbits indoor (winter) cage. She can't walk. I'm hoping it just hurts from hanging and she bounces back in a day or so. I'll get a picture soon.
