A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Oh no ... poor Queenie! Hope she'll be okay. Wonder how long she was tangled up. Geez!

Daisy is molting chest feathers. She looks ratty. But Annie, however, looks great. She takes good care of her feathers. Wings and tail look pristine compared to poor Daisy who has no regard for her feathers!

Memphis- i have no clue how long she was hanging before i opened the coop. I really hope that it wasn't all night :/ she definitely lost some feathers and has a raw area on her leg where the scales were all rubbed off. Her entire leg is blue now from the blue kote. Her foot is swelled up and she can't put much of any weight on it. When she tries, she just falls over, it's really sad. When i found her, she had already given up struggling and was just hanging there though she did start to panic when i grabbed her to get her loose. I did take some pictures but mobile isn't cooperating with me at the moment.

Queenie is just sitting here, miserable. She hasn't made a sound since she's been in the house. Outside, before we brought her it, she was canning to the other turkeys but in here, she can't hear them so she's been very quiet. I guess that's good though. She needs to rest.

I was holding her up to get a picture. She doesn't stand on her own.

Trying to get a decent picture of her leg but it's hard. Her ankle/foot are swollen and her hock (right?) Is slightly swelled

You know it's bad if she actualy let's me hold her. She's the one that I brought home from the swap and is not even a tolerant turkey but this morning, she's just let me do whatever with her. I'm assuming she in shock.

Aurora - so sorry to hear about Queenie, hopefully resting and restricting her movement will allow it to heal up. Poor girl :(

Memphis - I know what you mean about feathers. Coco just trashes her feathers, and Big Bird spends lots of time making sure hers are "just so". Coco has decided that she prefers to lay her eggs in the chicken boxes, which she does not fit in (also likely hard on the feathers). I may have to set up one of DH's trail cameras in the coop to see how she gets her big butt and tail into that little box without falling out the front while laying an egg (the chicken nest boxes are raised)

Aurora: sorry to hear about queenie. I had a palm hen get hung in some wire. It was bad enough it actually caused her to lose her foot. But it healed over and she got around fine just on the stump. I lost her couple weeks ago to a predator.

Memphis: got several of the storms another 7 inches of rain. But the strongest went just to the south of me. Daisy just needs a spa day.

Ralphie: kinda neat when toms take care of baby poults. I think some of my hens need to take lessons from sidekick.

Aww, I'm sorry to hear that you lost her :( is good that she was able to overcome her injury though and love a semi normal life.

Geez, her leg is really swollen. Can she move her leg or toes? Poor girl.

I think she can. I haven't tickled her foot to check lol. Actualy, Queenie is up and moving! She was laying around all day and stumbling every time she tried to walk but right now she's standing up and looking around. I'll keep her inside another day or two at least but right now, it's looking like the injury may not be as bad as I thought. She's not keeping a lot of weight on that leg but she is using it. She's laid back down now, after having a drink, shaking off and walking a couple steps.
