A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

The humidity issue can depend on your local conditions.  It is so dry here (<10% in the house in the winter) that there isn't enough moisture in the air to cause any humidity swings.  I have to add water to the incubator just to get it up to the levels that "dry" hatch people want to use.
.

Our ambient humidity is 70-80% outdoors in the winter, inside 25-30.

Oh JR what a bummer. I'm so sorry. Do you have more pipping yet?

Did you set eggs today?

Did all the air sacs seem tight and in place?

They are set!

All the air sacs are wiggly except for one. I marked that one, but the rest of the air sacs I'm not marking until later, since it's hard to tell where they actually are.

I put nail polish on the two cracked eggs and put them in as well. I'll just keep an eye out for if they start to smell. I did some reading on setting cracked eggs, and it sounds like there may be hope. I meant to do reading on wiggly air cells too, but I am just too busy today.

I am nervous about my mini fridge bator. I probably should have given it a test run before buying the eggs! So I borrowed a styro LG from a friend, and turned that on today. But I trust that even less than my mini fridge! And, it has no turner, so the eggs would have to lay flat. I don't want to do that with their loose air cells. So what's a girl to do? Yup! I ordered a new incubator off eBay!

The eggs will be in my mini fridge for one week until that arrives, and then I will move them over. The new one is a Genesis 1588 with the yellow turner that holds them mostly upright. It's digital, and I trust that way more than this LG from my friend where you have to twist the tiny knob just so in order to get the temp where you think it will be right. Plus several of the hatching gurus on BYC recommended it, so it must be good.

Next week my dad and I are adding a controller into my old 1202 as well! Plus I also average 10% humidity in the house.

Before I set the eggs, I took a photo of Ralphie's Cream Legbar in between two of my blue EE eggs. So you all can see the comparison. (So far as is possible from cell phone photos.) The green egg underneath is from my last Cream Legbar who got sold last week.

And, part of the reason I am so busy today is I had to go gallivanting across half the state to buy some Brown Leghorn chicks. Someone on the Indiana thread had posted that their Rural King had some, so I called every Rural King within an hour and a half radius of me, and finally found one that had some.

I have a plan to mix Speckled Sussex with Brown Leghorn to make my own Mille Fleur Leghorns.

No one on this thread is from Michigan, are they? While we've been worrying about Feedman and wind storms in MO and TN, I was unaware that Southern Michigan was hit by severe weather until my brother texted me today and said he was going to get my mom cuz she'd been without power for two days. I guess I don't keep myself very well informed on current events. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/ne...power-and-winds-sweep-metro-detroit/98899718/

They are saying other states are sending crews to repair the downed lines and poles. I had no idea.

Finnie, I had no idea. Hope your mom didn't have any damage. There was several folks killed in MO & TN the last week with this weather. Unfortunately I believe you have to have tragedies like that before its reported on the news. Sad...

Daisy's little 6 year old friend came down to visit yesterday evening. She sat on a bench & Daisy hopped up & serttled down next to her. That bird really likes that kid. Seems like her parents are going to allow her 4 chickens this spring. No turkeys, just a few chicks. She's thrilled!

Thank you.

Thank you Memphis.

I'm always amazed at how Daisy loves to interact with people. My turkeys like people and are super nosey, so they will come see people, but they don't allow themselves to be touched. I imagine it's cuz mine just don't have Lapper training. *

Good news about Swan- she spent the day off of her nest yesterday. She did however try to sleep there at night.

This morning she has been squatting for me, too. I hope she will start laying again while there is still a chance her eggs could be fertile.

* ETA, actually, I think it's cuz they just aren't Daisy!

That storm front must have been huge to hit Michigan too....

OI hope and pray they are all ok there. We are back into the deep freeze, 6 degrees today. I am not sure of any of the eggs I got yesterday. I will be setting eggs today. My first time setting on a weekend as I get ready to mail chicks.

Does anyone know how "My Pet Chicken" gets away with mailing 3 chicks? I thought there was a 15 chick minimum?

I have some chicks that should go outside today, I am leery of moving them out when it is 6 degrees with a high of 18 expected.

I think I need to rip apart the one 1202. it does not appear to be auto turning the eggs, but I can turn them with the switch. I do not understand that..So I turn to R2elk for suggestions..(hint hint R2elk) Any Ideas?

I had to repair it last year too, but then the switch would not turn it, the bolt holding the push rod was loose.

Finnie thanks for the picture of the eggs, That really did make my blue look different than the others. However, showing my C shows everyone how sloppy my handwriting is.
