R2Elk please keep us posted on the pheasants. I've considered getting some,but the horror stories of aggression have stayed my wallet. So far.....

I am sure that you meant that @feedman77 should keep you posted about the pheasants. Where I live a G&F permit is required to have pheasants. The permit must be obtained and the "facilities" must pass inspection before the pheasants can be acquired. The G&F are very particular about all of this and also require more stringent testing than NPIP does.

You won't find pheasants, wild turkeys, quail (of any type), etc. legally available for anyone to just walk up and purchase them in this state.

All that aside, I did get a permit once upon a time and raised pheasants one year. Because I provide large areas for any of my birds I did not experience any aggression problems. However my experience is incomplete because I did not keep them through breeding season. I must say that a pheasant properly dressed without shot pellets in it is absolutely delicious.

I know nothing about them....I do go look at some of the pics posted here and boy they can be beautiful birds. The same with the peas! Love the pictures they post over there. All are lovely birds....

This was a wild bird that showed up one winter. He stuck around until a fawn almost landed on him when it jumped the fence.

R2elk...you just happened to be there with a camera when the fawn flew in? Thats crazy! And the picture of them looking at each other is too cool. What handsome birds. BUT I doubt they could ever be lappers!

So Daisy continues to withhold eggs. Annie is laying regularly. Annie is killing me with her yapping! She has a whole litney of barks, yips, trills....you name it....she goes through when she sees me. Its hysterically funny. Shes so emotional! Poor girl. Guess life in the convent is not agreeing with her right now....

I am always amused by dove hunters. I can't imagine they are worth cleaning and pick birdshot from.

R2elk, I have been thinking of getting Pheasants again. I had a game farm license 30 years ago and had pheasants for one year. The problem I had was keeping them. My pens got a cut in the netting and they were gone. Do you know how hard it is to catch an escaped pheasant with a landing net?



I hope the gulag is more secure. I need to get rid of the Guineas, because of neighbors chickens.
