A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

X2!

I do really well on the SS eggs too. I routinely get 10-11 chicks out of a dozen eggs.   Mailing eggs must be really tough on them. Another person said they only got 3 out of a dozen and she said all 12 eggs arrived uncracked and intact.

I am even rethinking my sending toad eggs in favor of hatching them here and shipping the chicks.

When I got eggs from Porters last year, I would have been money ahead to buy the chicks instead of the eggs.

R2Elk might have the right idea about shipped eggs.
I'd prefer not to gamble with YOUR birds Ralph.

Oh yipee! Annie appears to have given up being broody....for now....

She & Daisy were sitting on the back porch when I got home. Got the hose out , neither can resist playing in the hose. Chickens would rather not, the turkeys get all chirppy & silly. Funny birds!

Hey folks sorry we haven't been on in she (not that anyone really misses us). We lost another BBB Tom got to stop getting those guys for awhile, and we're kicking around the ideas of raising and selling heritage birds and then buying more BB birds to sell locally. We're also talking about starting a turkey rescue of sorts but we have to enlarge and move our pen before we can even think about it. I'm going to try really hard this summer to supply firewood for campers and earn enough income to pay for our new hobby that might turn into a supplemental income. Neptune (my RGW) is still going strong but can't be outside in the cold with his bad foot, JB (our Black) is still trying to impress our hen and MJ (Out surviving BBB Tom) is still our wonder bird (I wonder what's going through his mind)

Memphis: Glad to hear Annie decided to get off the broody wagon.

Turkeyparents: sorry you lost another tom. But it happens. Glad you stopped back in. Wish you the best of luck on your endeavors on making heritage turkeys a mainstay.

Scottishkate: let her hatch some chicken eggs.

Woke up this morning to rain that would soak a frog. Over weekend to today over 4". Calling for strong storms tonight. A lot of tornado warnings to the south. Have clocked winds of 80 plus out of one of the storms headed this way.

Hey Turkey Parents....sorry about your loss. Heritage breeds are the way to go. Glad you stopped by.

R2elk...how many Sweetgrass do you have? Glad your getting eggs!!

Feedman...same storm system heading toward us too. Should hit around 3 this morning. Thats always a treat. Tore up parts of Texas....hope everyone is okay.

The main flock of turkeys that live downtown here and on the north side, are mostly around the University. I've seen a solo hen wandering around here before, but it just seems she was poking around the bushes, away from the flock. Who knows what she was thinking?
