A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

The weather cleared up yesterday afternoon some.

But it's back to a steady rain again this morning.

I'm about to have a castle and moat again.

Already ready for the weekend. Bird sale swap meet. Hope to clean out brooders of babys. If I'm good not bring any new ones back home.

I've had two Rps sitting on chicken eggs for a month now. The final Rp hen decided to join them yesterday.

Same here. I'm hoping to unload A LOT of babies this weekend. Though, most of the space in one brooder is being taken up by a preorder for 14 ccl chicks of which I'm 1 pullet short lol

Aurora....are you going to a sale too....or are folks coming to your house. What did you end up keeping for turkeys this year??

Feedman....good luck this weekend....and good luck NOT bringing anything home!!

I'm going to a sale too but I also have people coming throughout the week. That 14 CCL order should be leaving on Friday once the other pullets hatch, 5 Lav Ams should be leaving tomorrow, 6 poults left yesterday, 1 poult and 2 CCL leave tomorrow lol.

For turkeys this year, I kept 3 bourbon reds in hopes of a replacement for Adam. One has gobbled so I'm pretty sure at least one is a boy. Then there's Sprinkles. He's still in the brooder though.

Yesterday, my neighbor came up to me with a turkey egg in his hand asking if that's what it was. I told him that it was. He found it in the middle of the dirt road on his morning walk and was curious if it would hatch. So, I now have a wild turkey egg in my incubator lol. We'll see if it hatches. If it does, I doubt he'll want it (though I'll gladly hand it over if he does) so I may have an eastern wild turkey to raise too.

Here's the pictures I took of Pebbles the other day all fluffed up in her corner with the older baby tucked under her. The tiny baby was under her too but didn't come out for the picture. Unfortunately, her baby ended up with a broken leg somehow and had to be brought in. The big girls were hunting worms so I'm thinking that someone grabbed his leg and shook him, snapping it. He's got a splint on it now and is getting around ok in the brooder on one leg.

She actually bit me for getting too close taking these pictures lol

The other two young'ins decided to roost with the big turkeys

I'm glad you all are making it through your weather unharmed!

Lots of posts to catch up on after I get busy for a few days.

Feedman, what is the fun in not bringing home new birds?! I say if you empty out some brooders, then you have every excuse to buy something new. I sold six whole chicks a week ago. So what did I do? I bought 6 new ones from Tractor Supply. They just happened to have a breed I have been looking for, and I had an empty brooder, right? Never mind that I have eggs hatching weekly, and an order in for 10 Buff Ameraucanas that are shipping this week. (Today actually/ I can't wait!)

Aurora, I love how Pebbles adopted the poults! I hope the one's broken leg will heal.

Memphis, love that you have baby robins! And front row seat!! I still can't believe she chose the perfect spot for viewing.

Nice poults and tutor, Ralphie! Just the one, huh? Will you raise that one with the poults, or will it get switched over to a chicken brooder?

We have had a lot of rain here, but no severe storms. Just a lot of water and mud, and long grass from not mowing. I did a table at our caged-bird fair here in Indy yesterday. Sold 12 parakeets, and only bought two new finches. Makes for a busy weekend, so today is catch up day.

Oh yeah, and Sprinkles is looking very interesting. Can't wait to see how he turns out.

I have no idea where he will end up. Someday in a chicken coop, a pot, freezer or living at some other house..

Because of the weather here I had too many chicks in the house for a few days, ( by house I mean basement not a living area of an old farm house).

I had a small kids swimming pool set up with some poults and chicks in it. I got the area outside set up for them and started picking the chicks out of the pool. I had a dog gate over the top of the pool. When I was picking chicks I noticed one or two jump on top of the gate.

I grabbed them and put them in the box to go outside. I also had some chicks in the brooder the turkeys are in (in the basement) and picked the chicks out of it leaving it empty. But I kept hearing chick noises..

I took all the chicks outside, I had a half dozen poults in the pool still and 18-20 in the hatcher, I should not be able to hear them from the brooder. I was changing bedding and cleaning the brooder and I kept hearing the beeping....

Finally, I looked between some old boards and a poult and this chick was there. I picked them up, Put them in and informed the chick it was the tutor, which meant I did not have to go get one to tutor them.

I find they do best with a tutor. Turkey Poults are sort of are like liberal college kids. Cute and cuddly but not all that bright....

Finnie need to empty brooders because my incubator addiction took over and I have full incubators.

Start hatching next week. For the next month.

Turkeys, pheasant, and quail.

120 turkey egg
200 pheasant eggs
240 quail eggs.

And still collecting when incubator space opens up. Will start some more
