The midgets came from a breeder. The midgets and Beltsville's are supposed to have very different looking finished carcass's. The midget is supposed to look like a miniature Broad breast, you shouldn't be able to see the keel.

So, what's the alternative???? Given that the people with eggs won't ship chicks?

Most of the people shipping eggs are shipping them illegally because they are not NPIP certified and are taking the chance that they will get away with it. The ones that are NPIP certified will ship chicks if you ask them to unless they just don't have a large enough flock to produce the amount needed to ship them safely.

You shouldn't be buying from those people anyway because the eggs they ship are not really fresh which is required for shipped hatching eggs to have a decent chance of hatching.

I have 2 Mr. T poults. Both from Ethel jr. Who is now broody... She is a beast... I will get new pics of them tonight. I am thinking the oldest is a tri color mottled slate but who knows... He has lots of colors coming in... And my gosh are they friendly little buggers. I have to watch where I walk when I have them out with their Buckeye mama.

If the poult has lots of color coming in, it is not likely to be a Tri-Color Mottled Slate. The Tri-Color Mottleds as poults are very difficult to tell from a Black poult if they are the Black Mottled or a Blue Slate if they are the Mottled Slate. They typically don't get their mottling and tri-colors until they get their adult feathers and only slight mottling at first. The mottling increases each year as they age.

I've Yet to buy eggs that were not NPIP. I do ask how long they hold them BEFORE shipping. And there are PLENTY of people who will NOT ship chicks. Some people (tree huggers) think its too traumatic. I've heard all kinds of excuses why they don't do it. Checking their NPIP # isn't hard.

Gonna get a notebook tomorrow and start keeping track of their feed consumption (averaged among all) and their weight once a week.

Thank you for this info! I meant to ask you about that but never did. I am gonna get pics tonight for you guys. Maybe someone will have a good idea as to what they are.

The bronze looking one is Either a red bronze or a rusty bronze. Hoping for hens Actually I don't know what gender I hope they are... I want hens but would I be doing too much inbreeding? Maybe I will keep hens this year and then stop so I don't have overly inbred birds... I guess we will see what I have for females and then decide...
