A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Today's hatch. 36 to the brooder, 2 to the hospital.

And when I moved the birds out of the brooder today, it is confirmed that unauthorized mating took place in the winter housing (reminds me of a college dorm). I have Silver Spangled Hamburg crosses with Isabella Leghorns. This should be very interesting when they feather out. Those in the bottom photo have a really strange color pattern I have not seen before. Not really sure what they are. :caf

Regardless, I've finally crossed the 120 bird mark, hopefully more layers than cockerels:wee:clap:ya:yesss:.

Kathy, beautiful hen. How old is she? Here is a tip...hens will have feathers up the back of their neck & head. Toms won't. My hens are sweet too. Turkeys are such great pets!
CherMon...loved the shots of the moms & babies!! Looks like your hens are good mothers.

Here's a question... I have about 25 babies that will be 8 weeks old next Friday. Should I introduce them to their parents or keep them separate?:hmm:confused:

Rjohns, chicks or poults?

Flashpoint, I never could pull the trigger on a tattoo. Was always afraid my taste would change over time and I would regret it. Also figured as I turn into a wrinkly old fart it would morph into something weird...

My grandfather was a nursery man...owned greenhouses. No balers involved, however as a kid I remember him using a sickle in one of the fields. He would swing it from his hip & even as a kid it seemed to be rhythmic and elegant movement.

Well, Memphis - I am way beyond the old and wrinkly stage. Heck - 50 is a distant memory. What am I saying?? - I can barely remember 60!
:old

But I have pretty nice ankles for an oldie and the tattoo wouldn't be very big. Maybe an inch and a 1/4 at most. Like this. Just remember that this tattoo is much larger than the actual size.
