A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Uggg....already over 80 with high humidity. Took the girls for a quick early stroll before work. They do love hunting for moths in the grass. Wet dew ladden wings make them easy prey! Ran into that stray cat again. Girls had it cornered against the neighbors garage. Had to call off the hounds, whoops, meant turkeys. I can tell they think they are tough...flexing those wing muscles and all. This is the third time they've encountered this poor cat. They really have their bluff in, and they know they can intimidate it. I need to get rid of Mr. Cat. Doesn't appear he has a home. Don't want him to get brave. My turkeys would squeal like the little girls they are.

I wonder if you experts know what this is. Turkey has a large sack around the breast area, doesn't seem to be causing any pain. It's very large, i can't wrap my hands around it. The sac is squishy not hard.

Edit: Could it be sour crop? Is it treatable without surgery?

Hi Everyone, I made it through another day!!

I cannot tell by the pictures, if that is limited to the crop area, it is no problem.

If that "squishy" area extends between the legs or down towards the legs and is on the underside of the body it could be a problem.

If the bird has kidney or heart problems "ascites" will occur. This is simply an accumulation of fluids in a sac, either in the body cavity or under the skin between the skin and muscle.

If this is the case you are best off culling the bird. It will not live long and weight gains will be slow. Slwo it invites other illnesses to invade your flock. Is that a BBW by chance?

The BB have this condition far more often than the heritage breeds do.

Finnisher....they will fill their crops before they go to bed. It should be pretty empty by morning. Check it then.
Kathy....is the foamy poop consistent? I don't see it often, just occasionally. Your the reason I own a scale!
All cecal poop is foamy. I am thrilled that you and many others have scales! Still got to catch her and weigh her.
