A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

ARRGH!!!!!

Last night, bedtime,

1 turkey..15 ft...5 minutes!

I know they do this stuff to try my patience!

The Toms went visiting my Mom's yesterday as my Nieces are there. She had a bunch of apples on the deck, that she had picked from under her tree. My Nieces started cutting the apples in half and throwing them. The turkeys would all run, (Yes, they can move fast at all times except bedtime) to the apple. The first one to it would pick it up and carry it away from the others taking a small bite.

The girls would then throw another apple. The winner of the last apple race would drop the apple and race to the new one trying to beat the others again.

May sound boring, but we laughed so hard watching these guys chase apples, bite them and race to the next one. They are so "graceful" when running like that, not.

We did this for a good half hour.

Molt Question: The back of my black hen's neck is completely bald this morning. No skin damage. She'll be a year old in two days. No other visible feather loss on her or any of the others, although the tom's fans are getting pretty ragged. So I'm wondering, is she starting to molt or did someone pull out her feathers?

Rjohns: I would say it's the start of a molt. The largest majority of my hens are starting to.

My bourbons have not laid an egg in over a month so I let them out to range. They were some happy birds. Of course this morning one decided to mate so I hope I don't have to pen her back up.

I'm still getting 3 to 5 eggs from the rest of my hens. I was hoping They would have stopped by now. So they remain penned.

My last batch of Turkey eggs are hatching. So far 2 are out and 6 more are still moving and attempting to hatch.

1 more rack of quail and pheasant to hatch next week then I shutting off incubators for awhile.

19 of my younger Turkey's are in outside pens now all seem to be making the adjustment and liking it.

I've used the plucker I bought at the auction. Its ok. But have saved enough gonna get to order my tub style plucker next month. Then my flock is going to take a major number reduction.

I'm not going to winter over very many birds and am only going to keep about a dozen chickens for eggs next year and 6 Turkey hens. Mainly my bourbons. Palms and narris are gonna depart.

Nice to hear an update, Feedman!

So this morning I was wishing I had my phone with me to take photos of my three Dingleberries up on my garage roof. Oh well. No turkey silhouette photos. I noticed two of them back in the yard later, but not the lighter winged one. Then I heard turkey sounds coming from my neighbor's yard. Uh oh!

Turns out the sounds were just echoing off the side of their house. The stupid Dingleberry is stuck in the top of one of my pine trees!

I'm guessing she must have flew up from the garage instead of down.

She's up there crying her head off like a big baby! She's about 40 or 50 feet up.

Poor thing... "Now that I got up here, how do I get down?????"

Thanks for the update... I'm down to one or two eggs about every other day. The hens were cute today... About 6:30 this morning I was on the back deck and they came to tell me they were ready for Breakfast. :lau
