A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

As soon as you put anything with a galvanized covering (hardware cloth, etc.) in the ground, it begins to break down.

I thought galvanized was to prevent rust....How often do you think we should be changing the ground wire??

(BTW This is the fact my one fact for today, no one try to teach me a new one until tomorrow)

One last hug goodnight.

Hi again. That little turkey that had a swollen eye is still having issues. Ive had a bunch of things going wrong this week and haven't been able to do enough research. If I push on the swelling water comes out of his eye a bit. Hes healthy, eating , struting and a perfect little maniac otherwise. I have flushed his eye every day, put vet rx on him 2x a day and have checked his mouth for anything stuck. Is there something obvious I'm missing? The other 10 are fine. Thanks!

can you post a photo??

Every stinking rotten furbearing critter here tunnels!

I laid 2 ft of hardware cloth out and covered it with dirt.. I hope the furbearer chips a tooth trying to dig through it.....after the fence shocks the poop out of him/her....

Also I needed to move a panel this summer and I had to "cut" the hardware cloth that was barely covered with dirt....It ripped with just my hands.

I know I am not getting stronger in my old age..So I am guessing there is a useful life span for hardware cloth on the ground.
Since this is hopefully more of a longer term thing. I have several old steel combo panels I may bury along the perimeter.

My farm was an old hog farm panels and all sorts of stuff in the ground. I hit an old panel with a shredder last summer tore up the shredder but panel was in good shape. Had to have been in the ground at least 20 years.

It all depends on the gauge of the wire being used. Something as light as poultry fence will not last even one year. I have some welded wire that has been in the ground for 3 years without any signs of deterioration but I am not sure whether or not it has been galvanized. Even galvanized pipes have a limited life span.
