A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I got to see something earlier today that I hadn't seen before out of the two toms.

My son came up for a "cookout" (which meant he brought KFC) and cleared out the new shed in order for me to get my ridng mowers in - and to save me from having to cover them up every night.

He went around back to get my big mower when Tommie and Iron went on full display and wouldn't let him near the mower! I guess they knew it wasn't his?

Anyway, he threatened them with a bungee cord and hanging, but I had to push them out of the way so he could get on the mower.

I wish I had my camera at the time, but alas it was on the charger - where it hardly is during the day.

This one is going to be someone's future dinner. I suspect it is a genetic flaw so she will never be allowed to reproduce.

She's a half male half female chimera!
That's actually really neat.

I'm still uncertain what sound she was making... Wasn't a hiss, wasn't a coo, much more like a chicken angry about the nesting box being occupied. Didn't know a turkey could make that kind of sound. None the less, she had a death grip on the handle. I picked her up and she kept the hammer. So what do you do when all else fails, offer worms. She gladly traded the hammer for treats.:lau:lau I wonder if that wasn't the goal all along:confused:

Hey all , just a couple of questions from a newbie. Loving having turkeys, they are just so amazing.

I am noticing when someone new comes onto the property, there is quite the conversation (from the turkeys) along with curiosity. I really noticed it when my 8year old nephew was here, (we don't have kids yet, so they are not used to small people!). But yesterday our new neighbors stopped by and it was still a cacophony of turkey chatter. Is this curiosity? Nosiness? Territorial?

Also, what purpose does a beard serve? Is it a mating display?

My poults are about 3-4 months old. Hatched may 23rd. It seems like one of the bourbon red always has a darker red neck. Is this possibly an indicator of it being a male, as we see in Roosters?

Thanks for any help.
