A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Doesn't work on turkeys unless you have sex linked poults. I have seen it claimed but not proven that Narragansett female poults are lighter colored than Narragansett male poults. One person made the claim that his Bourbon Red poults looked different and followed them into adulthood with a correct prediction of their sexes.

I personally have raised a fair number of Bourbon Red poults and never saw any color or pattern difference in the poults. Guaranteed it doesn't work on Slate poults or Royal palms.

After all they are turkeys.
I was thinking something more like just a picture of their heads.

Isn't this cute?

There may or may not be a correlation between head shape and sex. Using a number of different criteria I have on occasion picked out 100% correctly sexed day old poults but there have also been times when I have been 100% wrong.

@R2elk , are they even call poults once they start to loose their head fluff?
I believe they are referred to as poults up to as much as 6 months old. Once they are clearly sexed some people refer to the young hens as jennies and the young toms as jakes. personally I just call them hens and toms. Of course these are American terms and people from other countries have different terminology.

Should my turkeys have some sort of fear of dogs? My one dog (recovering from surgery himself, hence the donut e-collar) has an insane prey drive and wants to murder them all... they come up and pip at him and peck his nose. It drives him crazy and he forgets to breathe and trembles all over.
