A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Tommie (the Tank) Tucker Turkey went nuts today.....over my Henry hat. Even after a couple of hours, he was still upset over the hat, following me everywhere, jumping up on the mower trying to get it, and until I finally had to hide it.
that is hilarious!!

I figured he was biased against Henry Firearms.
:lau
thats unfortunate, but maybe he lost a cousin to one

Looks a lot like mine... :D

Do you know what yours is a cross of?

Beautiful birds!

I have not checked the calculator for a while. I am going on the surprise me method..

Also on the surprise me method........I kept 3 young turkeys back, beautiful red bronze birds, they just shimmer in the sun. from the Waverly sale..

I was sure I had 2 hens and a Tom. Yesterday I looked at two of them and thought Hmmmmm the tails are getting long the snoods are looking kind of boyish and the Birds are huge... So being an astute Turkey person I said to myself,,,,, "(river water over an artificial wall) I have 2 toms, I should have taken one to Waverly,".

Then to console myself I said to myself " At least I have one hen"...

I them looked for the other hen, she was lying about 20 feet away in the sand playing with her snood that was hanging about a inch below her beak......

Some days life vacuums.

I forgot to wear it this morning, but plan on taking it back out. Who knows, today he might not even look in my direction..... but, I'm kidding, I think.

I forgot to comment, I loved the hat episode....That was way more reaction than when my straw hat flew off, my turkeys were too afraid to touch it.

Thanks, Ralph :)

The hat issue went on for several hours and until I did hide the thing. However, I do want to see their reaction today when I wear it down to the pens. Tommie was the main hat aggressor, but all of them were talking and not happy. Iron (other tom) tried to get in on the action, but Tommie just wouldn't leave the hat alone. He didn't try to physically keep Iron from it - he was just flat all over the hat.

I had put the hat up on the mower hood a couple of times. Both toms jumped up on the hood trying to get the thing, even with the mower running. It was like "instant and immediate hate". lol

I just wonder if they would be that way with any predator? The neighbor has this great big black dog that is tall enough to step over my 3 foot chainlink fence. When he came up to the fence, Tommie just stood there looking at him. I really do not think he would have run if the dog had come over.

Funny, cause Tommie paid no attention at all to the two goats that came to look, too.

It has been stated before that one of the recognition traits of a predator is the eyes are on the front of the face. The goats like other prey animals have their eyes on the sides of their heads. The turkey would recognize the dog as a predator but not so with the goats.

R2elk - Thank you. Once I read your post, I realized I knew that, but had forgotten.
