A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

That's what I've always thought too. He has always acted like a tom. He's gonna be a big guy for sure. He's only about 4 months old and is as tall and almost as big bodied as the two year and a half old hens. Huge feet and super long tail feathers. Has a crazy looking Mohawk of feathers down his back. When do they really start gobbling? I try to imitate a gobble and get him to but he wont. Just once when one of the older chickens scared him. Oh also I finally got a new rooster, he's a sizzle and so far runs from his own shadow. Very sweet natured but I know that could change once he is mature. Well thanks for the input I'll keep my fingers crossed we are right.

My mystery Turkey to my knowledge has never gobbled. He is just over a year old. Finally saw him strut about a month ago. He is totally quiet.

By 5 to 6 months old he should be gobbling. Sometimes when they are younger if startled young toms give off a 6 note cadenced yelp. The hens poults don't seem to care.

I have two toms the same age. One tom was strutting and gobbling at just a couple of months of age. The other tom was almost 5 months old before he gobbled or strutted - but he's making up for lost time now. :)

Normal?? They just kinda come out of nowhere? Overnight. Ok I need to sleep. I thought it was something I did when I stepped on his foot. WOW!!! REALLY GOING TO HAVE TO GET HIM TO NOT CLIMB AND PERCH ON MY SHOULDER.

Which is why many of discourage Turkey Parrots..

Ok, so now I know why he is limping. It is too dark to take a picture. His left foot had a bad thorn in it. I just cut my hay field and I'm sure that is where it came from, because I had one come through my flip flop yesterday and he was out there with me.

He on the other foot has a bad case of bumblefoot . I understand how to do the surgery, unfortunately I have had to do it to several of the rescue ducks.

My question is how do you do it to a 40lb Tom Turkey who has taken on Hawks and well needless to say we have a hawk free zone.
I have read just about everything I can find on bumblefoot.
I have a ton of penicillin g, some of the Ducks are on it. Can I just give him shots? Do I need to open it up? How do I hold him if I should open it up? He is a lap turkey, unless your doing something he doesn't like or he doesn't want to be held. Then he might as well be a grizzly bear.
Any advice? I will tell you he didn't like the fact I pulled the thorn out. I did that but straddling him and lifting up on his leg gently.
