A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Speaking of beards, maybe mine are lazy or not interested at all or something but nobody does any beard trimming here. Romeo is getting quite the beard and Princess is wearing hers proudly lol

I was trying to get a picture of Mister tonight strutting but every time I tried, a rotten goose chased him and made him stop lol. Here are a few pictures anyway or Mister and Pirate since I let them out to run for a bit. It was not as dark out when I was taking these pictures as it looks.

This is why I let them out to run. Every evening, they BOTH jump up here and hang out or just jump out on their own. I've given up fighting it.

Almost a strut. I really wish you could see the picilling on his feathers in these pictures.

Rotten Lollipop, photobombing. He was the brat that kept chasing the turkeys away but he is selfish when I'm out there. He thinks I'm his lol

Wish I could could let my turkeys free range some but I know the guineas would just take off and the turkeys might try to follow... plus the last time they were out slightly close to dark I heard owls closeby hooting and getting closer... plus we have bobcat and raccoon and opossum and coyote that roam through the property. I hear there’s cougar and bear too... Joys of living in the woods!

the link doesnt work for me (from here or their site)
Mabel trims Mr. Ts beard. But Ethel Jr doesn't.... I find the Guineas can be beard trimmers too? Mr. Ts beard is now growing and not being trimmed anymore... And you rarely see trimmed beards on wild turkeys?
its a protein thing, horses/goats/any farm animal will go for an easy protein source if their regular feed isnt adequate

i saw a horse get their tail trimmed almost completely off by a goat, changed the goats feed and the tail grew back

You may want to try the link again. I just tried it and it worked for me.

You might be right about the protein thing but with turkeys it is definitely also a social thing. This year the two bearded hens that are not part of the inner circle have their beards intact but the bearded hen that is part of the inner circle has had her beard severely trimmed.

I have never seen juvenile toms get their beards trimmed and none of my current toms have had their beards trimmed. Toms that were well loved by their hens always had their beards trimmed.

odd, i still cant get it to open so i tried internet explorer and it wants me to download some unknown file type :/

oh well
I would not do that.

I am having issues with a number of the pages for the turkey varieties getting the message "The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression."
