A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Ralph, you are just confirming my decision to stay with the convent concept here. If only I could be guaranteed a JJ, Mr. T, or Romeo , I would reconsider. Tom fights, injured hens....all that just freaks me out.
Boy are my girls enjoying all the early green weeds popping up. Little pigs....

JJ was an exceptional Tom. I keep hoping I get another one like him, but so far, nada..

I just released the birds from the coop and the RP Tom decided he wanted to take me on, when I turned my back on him. I had to patiently explain to him, I need a second volunteer to grace the table of the guy I buy my corn from on Easter.

I am not sure if he understood or not. But I felt better about telling him what was what....He still made another run at me. I was then forced to tenderize his breast with my boot.

I grab mine by the throat and hold them for a time. I don't choke them just hold on. I only have to do this a couple times and they won't get close enough to me to grab them any more.

I have done this....my Tom's are a special kind of stupid, this does not affect them. I have grabbed them by the throat and slapped them (gently) wily coyote and road runner style, to try and get them to stop being horses ptwwwwws.... They still are. I love my Toms 8 months a year. The other 4 I can barely tolerate them....I am sending 2 to Memphis Tn to live.

Houston, we have a problem, and I don't know what it is :/ Last weekend's hatch was a dud when it came to the turkeys. There were 3 eggs, not one hatched. Chickens hatched fine though. I was hoping it was just a fluke but this weekend the same thing happened. Chickens are hatching great. All 3 turkeys died in the shell. Any thoughts?

Maybe temp? I find that turkeys and dux like less humidity and more heat, I'm sure ralph and R2 can provide better advice...

I have three groups of Toms... Adult, older teens and early teens. The older teens have started trying to take on the adults, the younger teens spend all day in a girl less pasture doing the mating dance. I don't know if they're too dumb to realize there aren't any girls out there or if they are just practicing for the big game. As for the older teens, it hasn't gone well for them.

then there's my lone RP hen.... She's still not old enough to breed, but will be soon. Ralphie will enjoy this... she decided that those green sprouts didn't belong in my garden and literally dug up all my onions and left them on top of the soil. This weekend I'm putting a 7' fence around my garden.:barnie Oh, btw, my older teens still fly to meet hawks and owls. They seem to spin the tables and make the aerial predators dinner. It's amazing to watch them fly and attack in the air. I'm sure the endangered species folks would not like what they are doing. But any bird of prey that comes near the pasture is dinner in their minds. I like them.:old

It's looking like it's Cuddle's first eggs that are failing. All the babies are black. Humidity and temps have been stable and constant for the past 3 months. Temps are 99.5-100 and humidity 25-35%

I just put one egg in my bator and plan on putting as my as my 3 hens lay in maybe 60 lol. I forgot how many days it takes? at 99.5 deg?
last year I hatched 6 from my daughter. Now I have her hen.
I ran 45% humidity till hatch and went to 75 to 80% at hatch and all hatched .

Do the boys stop eating in breeding season? I noticed mine didn’t even go for the scratch I threw out.

My fat toms broke one of their perches in the coop... or all the hens were on it avoiding the amorous pursuits of the boys. Probably that one...

No, they just try to eat when no one is looking.
