A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Aurora....Cuddles may be laying defective eggs. Send her to Memphis immediately. Seriously, I have no clue why they are failing. Thats upsetting. Hopefully you'll figure it out. But in case you don't...

Sitting out in the out yesterday evening. Daisy on my lap. Neighbor wandered down to see the owl. Who now regularly emerges from the magnolia and sits in a pecan & watches our evening routine. He had his old decrepit lap dog in his lap. Daisy kept staring at it. Dog was snoozing. Daisy reached over & yanked it's tail. It looked over then went back to sleep. Seemed not to care. That was all Daisy needed, she then settled down for her nap. Just an odd little interaction between species. Other birds never paid any attention to it.

It's very odd behavior, but I like it and they will definitely get to be breeders. It's only these four and it started after a barred owl attack. The owl stopped by for chicken dinner and the alpha tom dispatched him while he was eating his meal. The turkeys then ate the owl but left the chicken. None of my other turkeys do it and these guys don't go after anything other than hawks and owls... When they do, it's generally when the predator is on an attack run. If the hawks are flying high overhead, they'll just gobble at them. Like I said, it's odd behavior and I haven't found anyone who's seen it before. I've heard many say that geese will do it, but not turkeys.

My toms finally started attempting to protect their ladies. An Eagle was soaring overhead and circling over the pen and I saw the toms chest bump all the hens into the coop and stand at the door gobbling. I do have a top on the pen too. They used to not care at all about ushering the hens but I guess now the ladies are breedable they don’t want to let them disappear, haha.

So I bought a heating pad for my brooders but I used it for a couple turkey poults and a Lena pullet since they didn't like the new Serama babies. I don't think they have this figured out right lol.

Went to my last bird auction today for awhile due to work schedule.

Must have been clear out the barnyard day. There was lots of everything.

Picked up a narri hen and 2 bourbon hens. 4 chukar. And a roo and 3 white rock hens. And a buff Orpington roo. So I can have a pen of pure buffs now.

While I was getting them penned up. I saw my bourbon toms in separate pens each mate a hen. Maybe eggs not far off for the Turkey's.

Got my first chicken egg of the year today out of my ccl hen.
