Poor girl....my turkey hens adopted my little Speckled Sussex chicks when my chicken hens didn't want anything to do with them. I had brood them and they were fully feathered. Not itty bitty babies. Those poor turkey hens ran after those babies for months.

They taste a little like a pheasant that has been properly processed and prepared but they really just taste like a really good chicken with lots and lots of flavor.

Sounds like an awesome meal! Years ago, when I was 2 or 3 years old, there was a huge flock of giant guineas that free ranged, kept by an old man who lived in a house out in the middle of the oilfields. One day, my father stopped to visit him, as once they had been neighbors, though other people had moved their homes into town. I found the birds fascinating and found my way over to the flock and joined them! They were as big as I was... But they didn't really seem to see me as a threat and weren't disturbed (fortunately). Don't know how long I was out there before my father noticed... They were beautiful birds and I loved their polka-dot feathers.

My poor tom turkey has the most pitiful tail right now. Started with the guineas pecking him, and his fighting with the second tom. Now it’s fence rubbing (he sees the chicken hens and thinks they look sexy). He’s a bourbon red and he doesn’t have the red/white/red ends; it’s just broken off at the white part. At least he’s breeding his ladies well and isn’t aggressive to humans/his hens.... looking forward to post-molt!

My girls feathers are not too bad. Just a bit faded. I feel so sorry for them during molt. It's got to be uncomfortable.

It was me! I hadn't seen a Romeo pic in awhile. He's so cute! I can't get over the stunning feather color & pattern of Phil & Lil!

well, Bridget has her new family, 2 little BBB's from the feed store... I got the smallest ones, so they would look more like hatchlings, but they are about half fledged, don't know how old they are... They spent the night with her and this morning she has her wings spread over them and is making purring noises... Now I just have to make sure they are able to eat and drink. I put an auto-waterer right outside the dog kennel nest and food in a rubber frisbee inside. I guess I'll see how they do for the next 2 or 3 days... If they do ok, I have some heritage poults reserved for a couple weeks from now (from 3 different sources), so may soon be over run with turkeys! One of the people I am buying from doesn't like to let them go until 2 weeks old, and he has hatchlings born yesterday...

Why do my turkeys freak out when I make this sound?Was walking around and soemtiems when I’m bored I’ll make odd sounds with my tounges and this is the response I got from the turkeys,Is it a relatively close noise to what the mother makes when danger is aware?This is nowhere compared to the way they reacted the first time I did it.
