A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Very nice day today, but we went to town. I was able to add three geese to my gander order, so little Mr Gander will have his harem and should hopefully not take any urges out on my hens.

Went to the local hothouse and was told (once again) that no, there are as yet no apple cultivars that will bear fruit where I live. :hit It’s probably late in the game for me to be planting apple trees anyway. Oh well. Eggs and meat are a more viable food source and as an added bonus, will mature in my lifetime. They don’t taste much like apples, though. Maybe I’ll console myself by getting some :bun:bun:bun to go with my chickens and put them all up in a little hoophouse next winter.
I have 4 ancient apple trees near my house, 2 of which are in abandoned homesteader orchard near the road on the periphery of our hayfield. I'm sure if apples can grow in central Montana unattended for over 50 years, you should be able to find something in your area. Or you could learn to graft and get a cutting from these old ones.

Of course my favorite is when one is sound asleep in my lap. You can feel their whole body relax, eyes closed, head drooping. And cozy this time of year. Nothing like a lapper. Ralph....mine never have tried to jump up on my shoulders. Just a quick hop into my lap if I'm sitting in a chair. If I'm on the porch steps they just sit next to me. Funny birds they are...

By the way....to those newbies dealing with poults...I did not raise my two hens as poults. Daisy was probably 6-8 months old when I pulled her out of rush hour traffic. Got Annie as a roommate for her and she was two. Neither were used to hanging out with people. So our relationship evolved from there. Now they just boss me around ..... divas!

It's really amazing how you've reformed your girls...or how they've trained you lol

I could eat my weight in Thin Mints!
Aurora...the girls trained me. I figure I spent so much time with them they just got used to me & decided to trust me. Guess I wore them down. They are both so easy going most folks assume I raised them from poults. Personally, I think they are just nosey & like to inspect anything that comes along. I will say....neither have ever been aggressive to a person. And of course Daisy will stand there & let a kid do anything. She likes kids.

Memphis I'm right there with you on the thin mints .They've always been my absolute favorite! I actually made a new cookie this Christmas that tasted very much like this mints. You can guess how long they managed to stay around....

Pebbles is still doing good. She has the little boys tucked under her nice and warm. I pulled one out last night to check on them and she immediately started talking to him to call him back under her :)
