A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Neat owl pic @R2elk . With issues I've had with them In past. Dont know if i could just have shot a pic.

@duluthralphie sending baldy good vibes that he/she pulls thru for you.
Back when I first had guineas and let them roost wherever they wanted to, the owls cleaned out the flock. I had them also take a pair of 2 month old poults that were allowed to stay out with the adult turkeys.

Now, anything small enough to be owl prey gets shut inside a coop for the night. As long as I use these methods, I have no problems with the owls.

Friend of mine has custody of one of the state rehab great horned owl used for education purposes. He was hit by a car at 3 months old. The vet didnt think he would recover so wasn't concerned about bonding. Obviously he could not be released. She has had him for over 6 years. Couple years ago he broke a tether as she was taking him into be weighed. We searched for him for 12 days. He never hunted. We weren't sure if he could find food. Never has flown much. Plus it was August & hot as heck. It was well advertised that he was missing. We had leads from all over the neighborhood that we followed up on...all at night. Cant tell you how many times we tripped over stuff. We had no idea if he would come to her, even if we were able to locate him. We also figured one of us would break an ankle. Long story....but he was spotted by a neighbor recognized by the remaing tethers. We cleared away all the spectators. It was her & him and a bunch of dead mice. After an hour he drifted to the ground after a mouse & she...all 5 foot of her...tackled him. He was caught! He had lost weight. He had to be rehydrated. She started feeding slowly. And he's back to being a happy hooter educating kids. We still can't get over the fact he was found & recaught. After 12 days we were discouraged & figured he may be a goner.

Here he is being rehydrated.
