A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

First confirmed breeding of one of the Sweetgrass hens today. Mr. picky prior to this has only had a confirmed breeding of one of the Blue Slate hens. Last year he refused to breed the Royal Palm hens the first month of the season. There were lots of infertile eggs set last year. I have at least 4 hens laying but likely more since I have been getting up to four eggs daily.

yesterday was a new one as one of the young Sweetgrass hens made a deposit on top of one set of chicken nest boxes. She had been trying to get up on the ledge for the overhead floor joists but finally gave up and settled for the top of the chicken nest boxes.

It is a beautiful sunny day here, already up to 40°F from this morning's low of 22°F. The wind is blowing but not howling.

First turkey egg. Finally. :clapno more confusion. Lol

Thursday I got the turkeys moved to their new pen I've been working on all winter (on the few and far between nice days we had). And then I was able to convert their old pen into a giant chick brooder with MHPs in it.

Oh! And I set my first batch of turkey eggs! So far just one girl laying every other day.

Americauna. I only have a pair, I'm hoping they multiply for me this year. :jumpy

@ketojenn Do I remember you saying something about Brisse? How’re they doing for you? I kind of wanted to try some but those huge combs worry me with the cold...
Yeah, the roos ended up with frostbite pretty bad on their Combs and their insistent, loud crowing got on my nerves, so I butchered all my males last weekend. I haven't eaten one yet, so not sure if they really taste fantastic or not. They did grow fast. I hatched these late last fall and could have butchered before Christmas, but I was planning to keep some for breeding and wanted to grow them out a bit. I still have 5 hens and they are nice looking birds and laying eggs like crazy.
