A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Congrats a the nite hunt memphis.

Ralphie that hen was trying to get payback for eggs she had and you took. This will teach him she was probably thinking.

Other than wind beautiful day here. Got beans, tomatoes, zucchini, and cucumber planted in my garden.

Where I tilled up the chicken pen. Planted spinach, radish, lettuce, parsley , cilantro, and giant head sunflowers. For the birds to eat on when they get let out.

About lost a hen turkey this morning was feeding and watering. Saw her in the corner of the pen did pay it any mind. Til I got the next pen. She had stuck her head between the rod that holds chain link and the pole of the pen. Just under a clamp that holds rod to pole.
That's not a 1/2 in wide. She was about choked out. Got some wire cutters cut fencing and was finally able to get rod to bend so I could get her out. Then the others in the pen thought she was a mortal enemy and went into attack mode. She had a bad morning.

HAPPY EASTER TO ALL.

Paul had helpers up the hill today workin on more barn space for everyone. I am gettin two new huge stalls up there yay!. Hope got tagged, fly tagged, a blackleg shot and wormed too. Boy howdy she was PISSED. But. She was such a great girl! She did not move for any of it! We don’t have a squeeze chute yet so she got her noggin tied to a post and her body was in between a door and a wall.. but she would have been perfectly fine just held with her halter. She was THAT still for us. Licorice treats afterward made her less mad at us. :celebrate.we may be a bit nutty and got farm name and two phone numbers put on the tags. Cause when someone decides to go walkabout and lands on some unsuspectin neighbors stoop lookin for treats.... at least they can call is to come get the degenerates.:lau

I risked life and limb and lost some blood but i candled turk eggs last night. There was only one not fertile. :). The other twelve were wiggly worms in there. Yay!

Good morning! My turkey hen, Jackie, spent all day yesterday barking. ALL DAY! She finally went into her nesting basket around 7pm, quieted down, and stayed there. She was still there when I rounded up some idiot hens at dusk. Today she is out in the yard acting normal, but yesterday between her and the obnoxious, crowing roosters, I was ready to massacre them all.

So...question, does this behavior go on all spring and summer? Will she calm back down at some point.

One of my hens is LOUD and proud if she thinks there is danger or strangers afoot. Sister absolutely does not like strangers ever. Once she spies them with her leetle eyes she is hell until they leave. So maybe there was somethin out upsettin your hen? She also has a thing for snakes.. hates them and will dance around them til they leave their space. She is a bb bronze and it IS quite comical when she does this. Her huge self all fluffed up like a baloon screechin and dancin around as she pecks it. I almost feel sorry for the snakes.

Thankfully she's been calm the last couple days. No idea what her problem was that day.
Garter snakes are very prolific up here, those turkeys can dance on as many as they want.

When I first moved in, I had fence lizards and lots of garter snakes. Since I got turkeys, I have no fence lizards and have not seen a garter snake here in over 20 years. I usually see one bull snake come through every year and maybe a hog-nosed snake every couple of years.
