A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

I love gardening with the birds. My old chicken hens know what it means when I get a shovel out and come running. I have to push them out of the way when digging!
Yes! When I mow with the riding mower, I have to watch to make sure I do not accidentally run over someone. Geesh, I've had to bump turkeys just to get them to move!
:lau

Edited to add: The tom turkeys are not quite as smart as the hens. I never have to "bump" them. lol

My royal palm Tom made a near fatal error today. When I was opening the doors to the shed he thought it would be a great time to run up behind me and attack..

I saw him in the corner of my eye and swung around getting him squarely in the chest..

When I went to the other dood to open it he attacked again.. I did not get a kick in on him this time he saw it coming and ran.

I chased him down and grabbed him, holding him under one arm I rubbbed his head and carried him to the house.

We toured the tree where I have the pulley I use to hold turkeys at chest height when I cut their heads off and bleed them out..

I explained the process to him and that one more attempted attack will win him the one chance of a life time to try the pulley out first hand..

I then carried him the rest of the way to the house and released him. Hopefully he has a better understanding of his fate should he attempt another attack.

Hmmmpth! At least you can pick your turkey up! lol

Iron is not so bad - Tommie .....has weight issues.

Oh Daisy is suffering from mid-life spread. Little pig weighs a ton these days! Flashpoint....I have to lock Daisy in her pen when mowing. She like to fly by my head. 6 inches away....grinning the whole time. Had to practically tackle her to keep her from running down the street to dive bomb the kid cutting his lawn. Can you just see that poor boy looking up and seeing a giant blue bird heading toward him? It's a game with her I guess. She does a fly-by....lands....turns around and does it again. The chickens just follow behind me. They love it.

An attack bird. Yeeks Ralphie....hope he learned his lesson! What's up with the boat hen? I remember you said nothing hatched, but is she still up there?

She is not a normal bird. Some days she is up there looking down at me. Other days I have no idea where she is. She is a yearling so I don’t expect much out of her.

I loved the pics of her peering down at you. Shes certainly a clever one!!

Any lapper training lately??

My Pencilled just has to be a girl! Merely based upon the fact that she's too pretty to be a boy!! Has such a sweet face. How's that for figuring out sex at an early age? LOL! I can see R2elk rolling his eyes!

Lap training has reconvened here at poult central. They aren't thrilled when I grab them but quickly settle down. Like most turkeys....they seem to like the attention and a good snood rub. Little creatures of comfort. And we sit where the fan blows on us.

LOL - that's funny and I love the visuals. I only have to worry about Brandie because she's always wanting to know what is IN the cart. Doesn't matter if it's empty feed bags, tree limbs, fencing, posts, she has to examine the stuff.

I have not done any lapper training. I am just too busy. Also it’s hard to do now as I have kicked all the poults out into the big cruel world to fend for themselves.
