A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Turkey season’s over here. All my birds made it. I was a little worried, though. All the turkeys I’ve seen this year are around the same size as my older ones. I think they got a slow start too, with all the deep, very late snow and cold weather.

We’re into whitetail season now. Everybody’s driving around on our road looking for that big buck. :lau Got to get out of the truck, guys. We live here and hardly ever see anybody with antlers along the gravel road. I did not get a tag. I forgot. :hmm I’m not a big venison eater anyway, but we have three hungry doggies.

Thanks Flashpoint....I think they are pretty.

An orange turkey "Safty Saddle" is a great idea. I hate ironing too!

My girls are piggies! I know they are growing teenagers, but dang they are going through the feed! But there isn't much available when they are free ranging. They all have nice trim figures. Eating a ton but no noticable weight gain. However, Daisy has middle age spread! When I let them out yesterday, Iris & Marigold followed Daisy doing touch & goes to the end of the yard & back. I had to laugh....turkeys bouncing everywhere. Just glad no one bounced over the fence....

Letting the dogs out early, as usual. Passed the turkey coop & heard Daisy whispering to me, as usual. But this time the teenagers joined in for the first time. All softly talking to me. So glad Daisy taught them to whisper good morning. Its honestly one of my favorite things. Hearing the hens softly talking from the dark depths of their coop starts my day with a smile! Turkeys are the best!!

Rjohns...the party is over! It's just damp & cold. Miserable. Although the birds don't seem to mind. And I don't worry about them as much with cold weather vs our heat. I think what affects me the most is lack of daylight. Dark & cold....we had 10 minutes of fall weather.
R2elk....I can't believe your warmer than us! We may get snow flurries Tuesday.

Our temps and weather are a constant up and down all winter. It was 60°F yesterday and is supposed to reach that again today. Tomorrow it is supposed to get down to 11°F and snow. Prediction is for 50°F by Tuesday with sunshine.

We get consistently cold to consistently more colder!!!

We should have highs in low 30’s today... right now it is around 20...

And I see no big beautiful brown eyed deer..... to send to deer heaven..

Just solved a mystery!! Finally saw the coonhound bag a squirrel! Could not figure out how he was able to run one down. They are fast & zig & zag. Coonhound doesn't zig & zag well. He's built to go straight. He's not chasing them. He's picking them off tree trunks. They run to a tree. Scramble up the trunk. But apparently think they are safe without going all the way up the tree. Then coonhound rushes the tree & nabs them. He make a quick rush to the tree & grabs them before they know what hits them. Guess they don't realize he can jump 7 feet in the air. Surprise! This coonie can climb! Wraps his front legs on the tree & uses his rear legs to propel up the tree. I need to try to get it on video. Then...breaks their necks, shakes them a bit, drops them & trots off. This dog is much more athletic than I initially gave him credit for. Can't zig & zag well...but has other talents.
