Except for the banty roosters that a friend wanted gone, the only poultry that I eat is poultry that I have raised.

Ruffed Grouse are considered game birds, not poultry. They fall under the jurisdiction of the Fish & Game agencies of the different states rather than the Ag Depts. like poultry do.

Finally got my van doors unfrozen. Never went past 32 today. 19 tonight. Setting weather records all over the place. We'll be in the 60's by the weekend. Wonder if the whole winter will ba a rollercoaster.

Parts of western MD - Grant and Allegany Cos are under the Snow Emergency Plan. Roads closed and power lines down. I'm only getting flurries right now, but the temp is currently 23.4 with a wind chill of 14 degrees - and it's headed south. I'll be lucky to see low 50's by the 19th.


btw, I am in Allegany Co. Right where God put a girdle on the State!

They can be kept together as long as they are not with hens. If hens are involved they should be separated before breeding season. In your area, breeding season should start in February.

Thanks! That’s a relief... it’s too cold to process anything and I’d have to do it anyway (NOT fun) if they started beating one another up. Besides I’m almost out of freezer space. A friend has promised me a chest freezer she doesn’t want (clearing out her parents’ house), but isn’t ready to move it yet.

The boys are starting to get a little bit combative, what with the jennies next door in the chicken yard (even though it’s not breeding season), but they won’t be seeing them for much longer. Hopefully that’ll settle them down.

We've got a lovely 14° this morning according to my car. The windshield wipers keep refreezing to the windshield. Following the bus down to town this morning.

well, the snow we got on Monday around my area started melting yesterday, and its still melting today (the sun is doing the melting), even though the temperature was around 25 yesterday, my 3 month old poults are staying warm (luckily there are 13 of them, 4 guinea keets, and 10 chickens with them, they are all 3 months old), i'm eager to learn how many toms, and hens I have (i'm pretty sure i have atleast 2 toms, but its still only assuming that if they are the only toms)
