A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

Hey folks! Hope life is treating everyone well.

I planned my latest poult hatch very poorly, partially due to work, but mostly due to sheer laziness. Went out into the coop tonight and found three little babies running around...

Of course I have no poult starter on hand, and being out in the sticks, it's at least a 100 mile round trip to go grab some. (Assuming the stores even have any right now.)

So, I have a couple questions - what can I use to get them by until I can purchase commercial starter? Does anyone know of recipes for homemade poult feed? I have some ingredients (soybean meal, corn, oats, Fertrell) as I usually mix feed for the adult turks.

hard boiled egg yolks, unsweetened yogurt, kefir, or raw milk blended with your mash, perhaps a nice cooked oatmeal with the yolks (no whites) and the yogurt, kefir or raw milk to moisten it. You could use a wheat cereal too. You can add some corn, but personally I use corn for winter only or for weight gain before butchering, it is not the healthiest grain but adding a little corn meal to bring up the calorie count would be fine. If you have any of your mineral mix or seaweed, add it per the directions per age for your poults. I use seaweed as an additive for my turkey starter for a little boost.

and cat food.

Nope that’s a Nevada bumblebee.. not a fluffy one. :gig :gig :gig :gig
I was seriously tempted to pet it, it was just so fuzzy. I took pictures instead, I was not sure if it would tolerate me petting it, and bumblebees are not particularly common anymore. They aren't endangered here, but I certainly want to continue promoting the health of all bees when i can safely do so.

My experience is that they are quite tolerant of petting in the early mornings when temperatures are cool.

My nasty old birds love milk!

I'll just make something horrible tasty out of eggs, catfood and possibly a bit of milk. Beggars can't be choosers.
You can be sure they are getting enough niacin and thiamine by dissolving vitamin B complex at the rate of 1/2 tablet in one gallon of water. It should be the sole source of water and should be made fresh daily.
