A Christmas Rant

Ok. You’re google skills are up to par.

Yet you’re missing the point….. still.
i’m not though.

my point is to live and let live. if people want to go to mass and celebrate christ on christmas, that’s their right and they should do that.

if people want to watch cheesy movies, buy expensive gifts, eat too much food, and fight with their families, that’s their right and they should do that too.

and neither camp should tell the other how to spend their holiday.

And on this I agree.

I disagree with your rant though. You’re missing the intent of the movies.

Teach those around you about Christ and why he’s celebrated. Teach about St Nicholas and why everyone goes nuts selling the holiday.

Then enjoy the movie for its intent. Reflection and hopefully a moral message to settle on you like a blanket in winter.
Have you ever seen the movie Time Changer? In that movie, there's a scene when the main character is at someone's house, and is shocked at what is on the TV, and tries to block off the TV from the child watching it. In a way, I feel like that character. So many people have become desensitized to a lot of the bad things they've put into the movies, and the movies keep getting worse. :( It's kinda what I'm ranting about here. I do enjoy these Christmas movies, but I'm looking at them at a deeper level.

@DickMidnight, I'm not telling anyone how they should spend their holiday. I believe in freedom of choice. I am trying to bring into the light a problem I'm seeing with a lot of these Christmas movies these days.

And proper education will buffer that person.

Discuss why it’s crap. Explore the reasons our morals (as a whole) are going down hill….. then quit supporting it. Don’t watch on network tv. Quit subscribing to streaming entities that support it.

I watch probably less than 100 hours of TV a year.

I surf the web. Spend time here at BYC. If BYC doesn’t cut it…. No big loss.

but you are. you’re telling everyone in your first post what they should be focusing on during christmas. if they don’t share the same beliefs and values as you, is that a fair thing to do?

if someone is vegan, is it my job to tell them all the great things about meat? no. it’s my job to stay the hell out of their business and let them live their own life.

we’re the stewards of our own morals, it’s not our job to be stewards of other people’s morals.

Agreed, and thanks for sharing! My Mom cancelled her subscription to Disney+ when she observed a lot of the bad things they were putting into their movies. My favorite TV site is PureFlix. They're a Christian movie site. As far as The Christmas Chronicles, that was on Netflix, and my family isn't paying for that, but someone else is sharing their account with us. If they wasn't, we wouldn't be ever watching anything on there.

Lacy, I hear what you're saying and to a great extent I agree with you about the commercialization of Christmas. But look, you can't impose your morality on other people. What DickMidnight is saying is valid too. If you do not like the way Santa Clause is portrayed, then leave him out of your family celebrations. If you want more of Christ in your Christmas, then observe Christmas the way you think is proper. But to get on a moral high horse and tell other people that THEY should observe Christmas according to YOUR beliefs is just ... morally wrong. Because if you have the right to do that, then others have the same right. They can tell YOU how to celebrate. Or how to worship. Or how not to. Or what you should or shouldn't eat. Or how to dress. Or how to educate your children. Do you see? Everyone has the right to make their OWN choices, but not to impose those choices on others.

So if something seems wrong to you, don't do it. Don't watch the movies that offend you. Don't participate in the Santa Clause commercialism if you don't like it. But don't judge those who do. Read the gospels carefully. Jesus made it clear He did not call His followers to judge anybody. That's His job.

They still monetize your views.

Cuties made me so very glad I trashed Netflix a couple years prior.

Just because someone else is paying, does not mean you have to watch, if it's crap.
