A Christmas Rant

but you are. you’re telling everyone in your first post what they should be focusing on during christmas. if they don’t share the same beliefs and values as you, is that a fair thing to do?

if someone is vegan, is it my job to tell them all the great things about meat? no. it’s my job to stay the hell out of their business and let them live their own life.

we’re the stewards of our own morals, it’s not our job to be stewards of other people’s morals.
That's why I said that I don't think this thread is for you. I'm looking at these movies on a deeper level. I want other people to see what I am seeing, but if they don't want to, they don't need to. You don't need to be on this thread if you don't want to.

Like your statement here:

This isn't what I'm after. You don't need to stay and listen to what I'm saying. You can leave. If I want to talk about being vegan, I can and have my thread. If you only want meat, and despise the vegan diet, you can leave and not listen. I'm not forcing you to stay. ;)

As you’re debating how her actions are wrong because you disagree.

You had a choice after reading your post. The hypocritical path of convincing someone how to think….. or the stay the hell out of their business and let them live their life. (That would have been graciously moving on. BTW)

Yet….. here we are.

i’m not trying to convince anyone how to think. partially because i don’t believe in it, partially because it never works, but mostly because i just don’t care.

what i’m definitely allowed to do, though, is disagree and call out errors where i see them.

there’s a big difference between “see it my way because i’m right” like she’s saying and “try seeing it another way because more than one person can be right”

Lacy, I hear what you're saying and to a great extent I agree with you about the commercialization of Christmas. But look, you can't impose your morality on other people. What DickMidnight is saying is valid too. If you do not like the way Santa Clause is portrayed, then leave him out of your family celebrations. If you want more of Christ in your Christmas, then observe Christmas the way you think is proper. But to get on a moral high horse and tell other people that THEY should observe Christmas according to YOUR beliefs is just ... morally wrong. Because if you have the right to do that, then others have the same right. They can tell YOU how to celebrate. Or how to worship. Or how not to. Or what you should or shouldn't eat. Or how to dress. Or how to educate your children. Do you see? Everyone has the right to make their OWN choices, but not to impose those choices on others.

So if something seems wrong to you, don't do it. Don't watch the movies that offend you. Don't participate in the Santa Clause commercialism if you don't like it. But don't judge those who do. Read the gospels carefully. Jesus made it clear He did not call His followers to judge anybody. That's His job.
Thank you so much for responding, @BigBlueHen53! I was going to tag you or something because I wanted to hear your thoughts on all of this. :hugs

I'm not looking to force anyone into my beliefs. I'm very sorry that I came across that way. I wanted to shed some light on what I'm seeing in these movies. Maybe I was wrong to do so? It really bothered me what I was seeing, and wanted to talk about it. Thank you again for replying. :hugs :hugs

And keeping with it because your mindset is the only one.

i’ll say again, the internet is public. this isn’t your house where you can close the door and people aren’t allowed in.

differing views are healthy, and they’re necessary. when you open a conversation in public, you’re going to get them.

i never said i “despise” veganism, or religion, or any specific set of beliefs. if that’s what you’ve taken from me here, then you’ve badly missed my point.

what i’m saying is your set of beliefs is your own and they are just as right and valid as everyone else’s. to hope everyone sees the world through your lens is a fool’s errand and it’s a bit morally upside down.

very much the opposite. my way of thinking is one of an infinite number of ways.

it’s the one that works for me though

there’s a part of you that agrees with me, i can tell. but you’ve decided i’m the bad guy here so you’re sticking with that, which i respect.

I guess I don't see the issue. I grew up watching The Little Drummer Boy and then Santa Claus 2: The Escape Claus right after. But we also knew rather early on that Santa wasn't real. Sure, there are a ton (literally probably a metric ton) of Santa movies, but there are also plenty that are more biblical too.

I'm sorry if I've come across in the wrong way. I'm not looking for any arguments either. I shared my view points, and you've shared yours. I'm sorry that we disagree, but we can agree that everyone is allowed to think for themselves on whatever subject they want. :)
