This story has gotten to the ugly stage, and I think she's not going to work out for you, or anyone. Do you have wounds, or was it 'pressure', not punctures? If wounds, get them treated. If pressure, the next episode will likely be worse. It's not about 'night fears' or whatever, it's about her response to you over her concerns. And owning your bed? Wow!
This 'rescue' group placed a dog who shouldn't have been sent out in the first place, very likely, and/ or they have no idea how to evaluate temperament, or just don't care.
Every dog can't move into a normal family situation! Some need to be managed by experts, and those experts have enough to do, and can't take on every 'difficult' individual.
I hope you can get help where you live, and that things work out the best for you and your family.

No wounds just pressure. It was really unlike her and out of character. Still no word back from the vet on advice. She also still hasnt peed. I took her out again about 10 minutes ago. I think the shelter just didnt care. They usually post all of their adoptions on facebook saying "____ found a forever home!" They didn't do that with her. It's like they know she will be back. I dont want to cause her more psychological trauma by bringing her back. This is going to be difficult to decide

Talk to your vet, and consult with a behaviorist, and maybe work with a trainer. It's hard when you've invested so much emotion and care to be objective at all! You may get positive assistance, or four different opinions, and they should be at least helpful. Here we all are online, not seeing any of this, and offering advice. Just do be safe out there!

I just finished reading the whole post. It breaks my heart to see the decisions you have to make. That poor dog was probably mistreated, but you may not be able to "recondition" her. It sounds like you are willing to put in a lot of time with her, though. Hopefully the vet can give you some pointers.

We used to have a dog that hated the crate. I think it was associating with the shelter. We ended up putting her in the bathroom when we left, and she was fine with that.

I don't know if you have tried this, but with our current dog we had trouble with her going out to potty and playing instead, then peeing or pooping on the floor inside. We hung a bell up by the door, and when we were taking her potty, we would ring the bell. We would only go out on the leash, and go straight to her favorite potty area and straight back. When we were taking her outside to play, no bell. We are hoping to teach her to ring the bell with her nose, but she is not there yet. Now when she has to go, she stands by the bell. When we ring the bell and take her out, she doesn't pull at the leash to play. She goes straight to her potty are. It took several months to get to this point.

I hope you can find a solution you are comfortable with.

Are these options Ninja?
Good post Mary.

I thought about the bell. Usually she tells me if she has to go though. She will put her head in my lap and whine a little. We might try the bell if we can get over this

Hard to relax, but she can feel your anxiety.
I know and I'm really trying. I'm almost worried that maybe she has a UTI or something? Do you think that might cause this behavior? Still no word from the vet. I have an errand to run but I dont want her to pee in the crate so I'm not sure what to do
