My 6 month old chicken died last night in her coop....she had been acting funny for a few days..lethargic, not eating much but still following my other 3 chickens around but then resting near them. My chickens are totally free range but sleep in a well protected coop @ night. She was a little smaller than the other 3 with the most developed comb...yesterday she went into the coop early without the others. When i reached my hand in to try and touch her she quickly rose so i let her be...when i went inside i heard her calling @ the coop door just standing there. I went back to see what she was doing and she flapped her wings and flew up to one of the nesting boxes. FYI- none of my chickens have layed yet so i was thinking maybe that was why she was acting funny, maybe she was about to lay for the first time. but when i went out to let the chickens out of there run to free range this morning I found her dead in the coop...poor little one...I miss her so! Does anyone have any info they could give me on why she may have died and if my other chickens are at risk? Thanks!
