A different way to water chickens-Avian Aqua Miser

I usually use 1 tablespoon but may try 2 tablespoons per gallon the next time I fill the waters. And yes they love it.. and it good for them. They will let you know if you put in too much as they will not drink it. For my chicks I use 1 1/2 tsp per quart for them. I start them out as soon as they start drinking water after hatching.

I keep reading about these nipples - are they not the same thing that hamsters & rabbits use (bottle with stem leading to nipple into cage) will they not work just as well?

I'm curious too...will a regular hamster/rabbit/gerbil type water bottle/feeder work too? Will do a search but if anyone has answers I'd appreciate it...

I think they are different. I read that someplace but now I coudln't even begin to say where!!

Mine should be arriving any day now, will let you know...

It only took a short time for my pullets to figure out the nipple water system. I ordered them from FarmTek plus extra grommets and placed 3 on the bottom of 2 (1 gallon buckets) that I switch out daily. I have an extra hook in the coop to hang the spare while I change buckets because of course you can't just sit it on the ground with the nipples on the bottom of it. Here is a pic of my girls working the water nipples.

I have RIR's right now and just got my nipple drinkers and other supplies. Hope to make the buckets this week.

How far off the ground did you mount the buckets?

Figuring out how high to hang the bucket was trial and error! I hung it up and then stood at the window to see the height of my chickens as they passed the bucket. I finally have it hung about the same height as their heads. When I go out later to check for eggs, I will measure it from the ground and post it here.

I have seen some of the girls pecking (one is actually drinking) from the guinea pig waterer I bought for $3. Not sure if they all are using it yet - so for now I am leaving the pan in the tractor & continuing to "teach" each bird how to use it. I have faith that they will all learn.
