A Dog question can anyone help?

yep

just watch to make sure she doesnt start throwing up - which could signal that she ingested too much of the dip. even if you spot her she'll keep scratching for a couple days.

you might want to vacuum the dickens out of the house to sweep 'em all up too. some people say to put the bag out in the trash immediately so they dont hop right out.

let us know how she does.

:)

oh the other thing... if you really think she is licking/scratching too much you can get an antiinflamatory shot from your vet or maybe some prednisone

one of our little cats is really allergic to flea bites and get huge welts when bitten. its not entirely unusual and may be something to manage. allergies change with time so even if she didnt react so much before it could get worse

:)

I would use a soothing type of shampoo such as oatmeal. There is also an flea control product called Capstar. It is very safe and will kill fleas within 1-2 hours then you can use Advantix or Frontline for dogs. Be very careful with knock off brands of flea treatments. They can be very dangerous. Good luck.

Comfortis is 30 day Capstar. It works when Frontline wont. Battled fleas forever on my husband's Golden Retriever X till the vet put him on Comfortis. It's a bit more expensive, but it's worth it.

You can also give a dog Benadryl (diphenhydramine hydrochloride), an antihistamine. If the skin is irritated and itchy, this could help calm the irritation down and give the dog some relief. Call your vet for dosage, but you can get cherry-flavored children's Benadryl (or the generic from Wal-Mart) and just calculate out the dosage for your dog's weight. Pour it on some canned dog food and mix it in a little. My dogs love it!

I have one dog that is sensitive to fleas, and even long after the fleas are off, continues to SCRATCH SCRATCH SCRATCH and chew on himself.

Every now and then I give him some Benadryl for some relief.

I BELIEVE the dosage is 5-10 mg for each 10 pounds of body weight. This is what I use for my dogs, usually closer to the 10 mg when the fleas have been bad. I'm not a vet, just going off what MY vet told me, so I strongly recommend that you call yours and not go just on my numbers.

But if you need help with calculations based on what they tell you, I can help you with that...

Just PM me if you need that.

If the dog is depressed and drooling then you need to be a little worried. But Happy Jack is a good product and I really can't see it poisoning a dog if you followed the directions. If you are really worried THOROUGHLY rinse the dog again or use baby shampoo and give it another bath. Make sure you rinse everyhting off.

You need to wait on the Advantage at least 3 days because it spreads via skin oils and it will take at least that long for the dog's coat oils to build back up to useful levels.

Next time, if you want, you can use Capstar of another new product, I think it is called Comfortis or something, that will absolutely knock the fleas on their butt and off the dog.

You can also get Hydroxizine from your vet if the benedryl isn't working. It is like a super benedryl and you can give it to them daily if you need to and it isn't too expensive.
