a few questions about ducks/ducklings

I had to share this pic, some one on the goose thread shared it the other day talking about herding geese.

How'd ya like to have all them Runners?

Holy guacamole! that is just unreal! does show how well runners herd though, can you imagine being in charge of that many??

I would love to be around that many runners. . . wow.

There is a photo out there somewhere with a guy surrounded by a bunch of runners.

I'd loose count and i always count my flock for night time turn in, i'd be wore out trying that with those... heck, i am unsure i can count that high.

It's the only way to truly know what is what imo.

It's funny about counting because the other night I was counting heads and when I got to the chicken coop I counted and came up one short, walked all around outside looking for this chicken went back in and counted again then it dawned on me Liz was in the house that was my missing chicken.

I'm also thinking about adding a few ducks to my farm. I think I would stick to all females. My #1 question is: how do ducks handle vegetable gardens and grass? Will they eat and destroy tomato plants? Do they wreck pasture? I'm sure they eat the grass, so long as they don't make bald spots on the lawn. But they don't scratch the same as chickens, so I wouldn't think they would wreck the lawn? But if they eat tomato plants, then I cannot have them because I would be letting them free range.

What do they primarily like to eat or forage for, in comparison to chickens?

Which breed is friendlier, runner duck or welch?
