A few Questions Building a Coop Tractor

Nice work. Neat and functional. No way neighbors can get mad about that outfit. I am assuming two standard chickens or maybe 3 or 4 bantams? I was going to speak to ventilation, but I see Pat steered you right on that one. Make sure the roost is higher than the nest threshold, or they will roost on that instead and poop in the nests.

Really nice!

I'm building one myself right now. I'd like to see how you did the wheels, if you've got them on there now?

But don't be putting that thing in the spring coop contest. I'm putting mine in the contest, and I want to win it. You'll hurt my chances.

Thank you for the compliments. if you'd prefer to use scrap stuff around the house, Home Depot will shake the paint, even if it is years old. It was the latches that cost me so much. had i realized i'd need so many, i'd have bought the pack of ten or fifteen door hinges for like $25.

I'm wondering about the wheels myself. i had planned to use wheels from a fertilizer (yard) and have another bar on the opposite side. but i can't find cheep ones. hardware stores are selling ones for like $15/ea or something. i'll need to find a used yard fertilizer and scrap the wheels off of it.

i'll have to get a photo of it out in the yard. three hens. I let them out everyday.

Your setup is very nice and well done, but it is really small for more than 2 LF hens. I have a quarantine coop that is the exact same size. If you are free-ranging that will help a lot, but if you really will have 4 hens (like your signature line indicates) you might want to think about how to expand. That would be an excellent setup for young ones or quarantine.

Sorry about the confusion as to the number of hens. i changed my signature. we sold a noisy barred rock long ago. They usually free range during the day.

catDaddy66 - Thanks for the compliments!

chookchick - Thank you for the compliments as well! & Thank You for explaining where the concern for four chickens was coming from!

Compliments make it even more worth while! i've recently realized this is my first construction of anything since Cub Scout's "Pinewood Derby." So I learned a WHOLE lot. Along the way i wished i had put the egg box in a different spot, but sawed wood, is ...... sawed wood. That was my lesson in this.
