I am placing an order for a few more ducklings and wanted to add a goose to my order. I was just wondering before I order if geese and ducks can be housed together? And if so do I need more than one goose if it is living with the ducks? I don't want the goose to be lonely. Also what would be a good starter goose? I really love the look of the Chinese Geese, how friendly are they? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have 10 Blue Swedish ducklings and we are getting a pair of goslings next week and they will all be together in the brooder. I suggest pairs of goslings if you can.

Good luck!!

I always suggest buying a pair. They can live with the ducks, but just remember that they will quickly outgrow them. Geese LOVE to nibble everything, and you don't want it to be your ducklings! You may want to try a pair of Roman Tufted. They are very quiet and docile! People on here really seem to enjoy their Romans. I would stay away from the Chinese just because I find them to be quite loud and obnoxious! That is just my personal preference though

Ok I will look into a pair then! I am ordering from Ideal and the only pairs they have available are: Brown African, Brown or White Chinese, Gray Saddleback Pomeranian, or Toulouse Geese. Are any of these good starter geese?

Do you know how the personality is with the gray saddleback pomeranian, I can't seem to find much information on them.

I don't have any experience with them, or even know a single person that has had them! I would have to think that they would be similar to the Toulouse though. We have had those, and they are a nice calm breed.

Just remember not to handle them too much or hand-feed as goslings {that's super hard!}. Once they're grown they should have a good established relationship with you as the 'head goose in charge' and them in charge of everything else! LOL! If you're too overly friendly when they're babies they can become attached to you in ways you won't like when they're grown... it can make them seem a little aggressive {or a LOT!}. I'm dealing with this from a "house duck" drake I adopted. He's grown now and integrated into the flock but he's a little weird and on the pinchy side. I have to re-establish my dominance {duck-like} pretty regularly. Clearly, I always win the push/pinch match but it's still kind of disheartening. He's great with his girls though!
