A-Frame--Need Help with Angles

I'm no geometry expert so I just entered the numbers in the formula as follows (9.24 sides yielded an 8.00 height):

Soooooooooooooo

What angle do I cut the end of each of the 2x4's to form a 60 degree angle PLUS also considering for the Ridgeboard at the top?

I'm looking to build something like this. http://www.confederatecolonel.com/articles/ark/ark.shtml

There
will be 2-6 nest boxes 1-3 at each end (depends on how much room there is. Short ramp up to boxes. Roosts will run side to side instead of lengthwise to maximize space.
Also using platic roof panel and not tin for weight.

(mumble mumble) I think it's a cosine function to get the angle, but honestly I'm too lazy to look it up.

I would just lay it out in the triangle you want to use on a nice flat surface, mark it, and then cut it. You can then use that first set of boards as a template for your other cuts.

You can also look at what size of a triangle is formed by either 8' or 10' boards and decide what size you really want it to be.

Oh, I see. But then the width is not 8'. It's also 9.24'.

I believe the original stated dimensions are 8' wide by 8' high.

forget the 8' high and 8' wide if you intend on using the 8' 2x4 's.. your height and width will be less than 8'.

In order to get your 8 x 8 you will have to buy at least 10' 2x4 's

to make the 60 degree angle you are going to have to make two 30 degree cuts.. use a 2x6 ridge board.

that 3/4" you gain from the thickness of the 2x6 (1 1/2" total) will not even be a consideration in this kind of construction..

I keep seeing people who are building A frames for chicken coops. I have a question, other than for looks, why? For a beginner this is the toughest kind of construction. I've been building for a long time and no way do I want to cut and fit all those angles. I keep all my angles at 90%.

I agree with you.. I am a square and rectangle man myself..

A frames waste so much space.

but I am the type who helps you commit suicide if that is your choice..
