If im not mistaken, silkies TEND to lay better. I have talked to cochin breeders and they said they get sometimes only an egg a week. I get about 5-6 eggs from my flock of 8 silkies. Sometimes less, sometimes more. Just depends....

Silkies come in designer mixes, too. This one, I've named Marvin Gaye, and I looove him. He adores me. His brothers are seeking new homes:

Ooh, and the neatest thing about mixing silkies with smooth breeds, is they're heavenly soft in your lap. Its like petting velvet puddin.

A mix of Silkie/Rosecomb, all super friendly (except the big red EE):

Just lookin at those soft silky feathers, my heart yearns to pick them up, they love me so............. they come running at me, give me a sideways wing dance (like for a hen) and coo the sweetest little stories, I think maybe they're just stupid-chatty, or trying to retell the story of their day.

When Grandma comes over, they totally cover her, vying for perch space on her lap and shoulders and arms. Their rosecomb momma taught them to love Grandma.
