D'uccles! The hens are the sweetest, and you can pick up and cuddle and love and pet and call them George if you want. I also have a d'uccle rooster who makes a great lap chicken as well. They have been approx 3 eggs per week for me-- but shut down from Nov to Feb if you don't have artificial light. But friendly and personable-- Oh yeah, if you start them on treats and petting and perching in your hand at an early age you are all good. As long as they are carefully handled on a daily basis and not squeezed by the young ones, and if you take them out in the morning and put them back up every night, you are golden. They have done fine for me confined in the winter, but like to forage when it's nice outside. They are good flyers though!

So how
Much do buff orpingtons lay?
Also has anyone ever owned a black/rhode rock before? And if so how is their temperament ?

My vote is for a hybrid sex link. I have Golden Comets and they lay nearly everyday, are mild mannered, will follow you around the yard, and are extremely hardy. They have not slowed down egg production regardless of the temperatures, we have some nights when temperatures drop into the teens, but 30's are average during the winter here in NC, USA.

Also what is the breed Matches the description I said I would want in a chicken in my first post, but is an egg layer?

Our Silkies do GREAT in the cold. They have a "mulberry" comb which doesn't frostbite.

We had to bring our Silkie hen in for a bath and a blowdry. We let her stay for a few hours, watching TV then we noticed she was panting. The 64degree house was too hot for her. She's very, very happy in <10degree weather. We've been less than zero for greater than a week, and they won't go out of their coop in that, but above 4degrees they've gone out like it's nothing. Just complaining they can't forage through the ice. But they like treats hung from strings and a few toys to kick around, and straw to dig in for scratch grains.

When we pick her and her silkie rooster up, we like to put our hands under their wingies. Its hot in there. Makes us wonder if that was part of the idea behind "hand muffs" ?

I used to have a really friendly black australorp rooster. Sadly, I had to get rid of him because even though he was friendly with people he was not so much with other chickens. But Autralorps may not be the best sort of bird. Our other roo didn't like to be handled at all. I think you can pretty much get any type as long as they are messed with. I have 3 buff orpington hens and we used to have a rooster. One of my hens is so friendly and you can pretty much do anything you want with her, but out of all of the chicks we had(minus Tobi my lorp. He was my favorite) she was handled the most. The rooster barely got handled and if you touched him he would scream like you were killing him.
