A friendly breed of chicken?

I have had 20 golden comets none of them were friendly, they do lay a large egg everday and vary cold hardy,I have had 10 EE`S and only one was friendly, she was my favorite she helped me do chores every morning just loved her, found her dead one morning, she died in her sleep.I have 10 buff orpingtons and none of them are friendly, they are good layers and very cold hardy,I have two faverolles and they are sweethearts love to be held, cold hardy and lay every other day, allso have a lot of silkies only one is very friendly because she was raised by me,nope got to take that back I have a rooster that just loves to be held and he follows me around.Hope this helps. All my chickens are treated the same don`y know why some are friendly and others are not.I got the orpingtons last year as chicks because I was told how friendly they are but I have not found that with mine and they come from differant hatcheries.I forgot to memtion I have one buff rock that just loves me and she helps me do chores and loves for me to pick her up,I call her yellow legs cause she was suppose to be a BO but her legs gave her away.

Silkies come in designer mixes, too. This one, I've named Marvin Gaye, and I looove him. He adores me. His brothers are seeking new homes:

Ooh, and the neatest thing about mixing silkies with smooth breeds, is they're heavenly soft in your lap. Its like petting velvet puddin.

I totally call dibs!!!

Hi, Im new to the whole chiken rearing thing...In fact, Ive not gotten past the planning stages of even building a coop (although I do have a few good designs in my head). Im basically wondering if I might get some input from experienced fowl raisers on what might be the best breed to get started with. Im on L.I. and I'm permitted 6 hens. I have a decent sized backyard (40x100) and plant around 15% of that in veg. I thought that chicken fertilizer and egg production along with weed and insect control would be a good addition. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Maybe just get a smaller amount to start out will as your new to this!
I'm not really the person to ask but ah well
Good luck !
