A gallon of sugar water-Warning-Do Not Read While Eating or Drinking

Nope, according to what I've read on that link and elsewhere, sugar water is just fine and close to nectar.
Probably the ones that want you to believe differently are the companies that sell that high-priced already made hummingbird feed.

Must have been that (the doomsayers), cause everything I just looked at said the same thing as the link you posted. So sugar water it is

I just looked at my box of high-priced already made hummer feed, and it is just sucrose, dextrose and a preservative. AKA sugar.

I'm too lazy to boil water.
Here the hummers stay year round. Sure get worried during winter storms and cold snaps. Last year I kept bringing in the feeder to thaw. Only about 5-6 times a day.

Imp-Isn't Birds & Blooms a great magazine.

Gritsar, do you get B&B Extra too?

No, but I've considered it. We get Reader's Digest, Birds and Blooms, Backyard Poultry, GRIT, and Mother Earth News. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies, so that's what I spend my mad money on.

I have a dear elderly friend that is slowly losing her vision. I'm saving up to buy her a lighted magnifying glass designed for reading and then want to gift her a with a subscription to B & B. I know those don't sound like things you have to save up for, but I want to use my own disability check money and not ask DH for it.

I'm still wondering if that's really Nifty, incognito.

here is just one of the many pics I have taken of Hummers at my house. I have 4 feeders and my garden reads like a who's who of hummingbird attractors.

ShellyD , Don't worry about it being to late to put up a feeder. Likely, you have hummers, but just don't see them because they are out feeding on flowers. Put em up and they will come back year after year.

That's a really sweet thing to do! I bet she'll love it!
