Just joined on here, based in the UK, already gained a bit of info from here. Just waiting on 6 eggs to hatch. First attempt but looking good so far. My main concern is fox attacks, what can you do ? I'm building a corrugated steel hen house with a welded frame and solid floor but what about day times? Can't be with them 24/7.

I was thinking something along those lines. my Dad used to do something similar and it kept the weeds down as well. I think it would have to be quite substantial as the foxes have got quite confident over the years. You can see them out in broad daylight in the streets, they don't run away or anything. I think it's partly due to the gun laws in the U.K. they don't get shot at quite as much nowadays. I'm a way off of needing a run but I'll post some photos when it's done, see how I get on.

Could you build a smallish fox proof run and just let them out to free range when you're around?

My flock has a 1/3 acre pen contained within 42" high poultry netting powered with a 10,000 volt charger. I've never had a ground predator loss inside the pen.
