With our big boxer, we've never had a raccoon attack. Never had a hawk attack. no skunks, opposums, etc. And our cat is a great deterre to rats and mice
 
To get them trained does a dog trainer have to come? Cause I've gotta 9 yr old golden retriever that I kinda want to protect the flock (maybe)
 
No, but you need to be 100% confidence that your dog is totally chicken proof as it involves raising their excitement level.
 
Well....if you raise my dog excitement level around the chickens she will go to them not meaning to scare them but she does and sniffs around where they were my guess....looking for poo.

No she doesn't hunt if you mean like hunt with so someone, if you mean by herself yes
