a hatch along for people who set their eggs on march thursday 27 2014

I am not a breeder, just trying to hatch some eggs that I had shipped. I candled them today and I have 10 out of 12 survive to day 6. I have read that Seramas do not have great hatch rates but I am hoping to get 2-3 out of this bunch. Any more than that, I'll be ecstatic!

Good Luck with the Seramas. Sounds like the odds are in your favor so far.

I candled today too while switching around in the incubator (rotating their location in the incubator in case of cooler/warmer areas). Some shells are porus (all the little 'light" spots) and a few are really dark when trying to put light thru it. A couple I could barely make out air cells but most I couldn't. This is the first batch of eggs I've ever bought (at least they weren't shipped) so I'm a little nervous about having spent money and possibly getting nothing (or next to nothing). At least the few eggs I spot checked that are due to hatch a few days later than this group are veining so I can at least assume the incubator is running right.

Hey well i candled the eggs to pick out the bad ones but i seen this is all the ones i knew were alive. Did they all die or is it just normal incubation results on day 8?

im really nervous i killed them please tell me im wrong.

I dont know. I have had some that look like that too but I left them in. Not sure if they hatched or not because I didn't keep track of them that well. I think they did. I found I get better "results" from candeling when I use a brighter light.

I candled last night and of what I can see, most look good. One has a long red line running thru like an equator line. I kept it in, but this time I marked what I saw so we'll see if it hatches or not. It's for a later hatch than our Hatch-a-long. For this batch, I'm tempted to find a brighter light than 200 Lumes. I still can't see much detail in most of the BLRW eggs that I have set (now on day 9 so I should be able to see something. Some of those eggs I still couldn't see an air cell. I know it's got to be there but just can't define it.

About 10-12 of my eggs I can definitely see developing. I have 16 eggs in now, and I can't wait to see how they turn out.
