You may have gotten cleared to kill it but possession and eating one... I'm not so sure... It's illegal just to keep the feathers or nest material of many birds. To have a carcass in your fridge is probably not legal no matter what.
The risk of eating it shouldn't be any worse than the risk of eating any gamebird. You have the same risk with quail or pheasant and probably more risk with rabbit. You just have to cook it good. I'd probably just follow any recipe for wild gamebirds. I'm sure there's tons online. I'm going to be looking for some when I butcher my quail.
