A Heritage of Perfection: Standard-bred Large Fowl

I went to Newnan, GA this past weekend to the Chattahoochee Valley Poultry Show.  There were 14 Campines there.  I took 13 Campines and a youth exhibitor took one.  I didn't win anything, but the young lady won Reserve Grand Champion Large Fowl Youth with her Silver Campine Cockerel!

We hugged and high-fived and grinned ear to ear!  It was fun to see the excitement on her face as well as the faces of her parents.  I was just a proud as they were.

Oh, I forgot to mention, she bought the cockerel from me two weeks ago.

I left an ovation but my phone incorrectly auto corrected.

Congrats, to her and you.

You cannot beat that experience. Thank you for sharing.

Did you check the Society for the Preservation of Poultry Antiquities (SPPA) breeder's directory? I did, was confused, and finally called SPPA members and ALBC experts and found some excellent breeders.

If looking for Rocks, make sure the breeders have a showing record and reputation. Rocks are prevalent enough that SQ stock is available with relative ease.

Remember that a nice person, per se, does not a breeder make; neither do "years of working with stock," if the stock is not being peer-assessed at shows.

Hi Folks! Is the latest edition of the SOP book 2010? TIA

Currently, yes the APA 2010., The ABA publishes theirs independently, of course. The spankin' new APA 2016 is arriving now and is slated to ship out mid-March. Order on the APA website. $59 which includes shipping. Great deal.

I'm still learning here so.... the new APA 2016 will be the new SOP book? Or am I missing something?

I'll add that there is also a spiral bound version available for the first time and it is less (although I don't know how much.)
Thanks!

Yes, the 2016 Standard of Perfection is the APA's newest, due to ship mid March.

The ABA publishes their own Standard, focusing on bantams, of course.

Remember, the only reason "new" books are published is to include the newly accepted varieties and/or breeds. Since I breed old timey American Class birds, there's no "new" anything, by way of any changes.
As a dues paying APA member, supporting the association is important to me.
