A Heritage of Perfection: Standard-bred Large Fowl

Dig up a photo (or print) of a properly colored NH and Rhode Island Red wing. Use it as a guide, but add irregular marking instead of solid with more black than not. You can still evaluate the wing for too much or not enough black. Where it is, in my opinion, matters to.

It is all about balance. I do not think it is any easier that the writers of the color standard did not get a few points correct. That is my opinion only. It is my opinion that if there had been a faithful and consistent following, a few points would have been revised. Maybe not. and maybe some would have chose to double mate.

A project like this, concerning preserving (or improving) color, while improving type would seam to be a series of small victories.

I do not think it is an easy color, but I do not believe when established would be of the most difficult colors.

Again, just a bunch of useless opinions.

Great! I already booked a room a while back........just in case..........

I would very much appreciate any time either of you (both?) could carve out to take a look at these birds and make any suggestions you may have for my plan of action.

George? Are you going?

No, I will not be there. It appears that you will see the two best contacts from this site though. Good for you.

I am a beginner like yourself.

I do not look forward to the Ohio Nationals just for the help and advice I can glean from those with more knowledge and experience (although that is priceless.) I also look for ward to meeting my fellow poultry enthusiasts, and online fiends.

George, I wish (there I go again) you would try to make it, it is truly amazing. I have word, from a reliable source, that this year it will occupy two buildings on the grounds! The largest one in many, many years. Some have estimated the birds entered to be close to 10,000! I was floored last year and it was around 8,000.

There's no question that it's going to be sick! I'm very excited for it. We're going to have a blast--I mean a blast. There is going to be a ton of fowl. I can't decide whether or not I should ask to clerk. I love clerking because one learns so much, but there are just so many fowl to see there.
