A home of our own! *We're moved in!* New pics! (post # 148)

I hadn't really thought about doing that... I guess I assumed it may be more work than it is worth. I've never attempted to strip down any woodwork, furniture, etc before, but I'm sure I could learn. We think the cabinets are birch like what was in my grandma's house (dad & I's analysis). It would be really neat to have them back to original!

Beth, stripping the cabinets would be nice, but wait for warmer weather. That way you can take them out to the garage and strip and sand them and then put a stain and verathane them safely.
That way the mess will be outside and not inside!

If you are going to replace the hardware, then take a door with you to make sure that a) they fit and b) you like the way they look on your doors and c) they will fit in with your decor.

When you take them off, write a number in the space where the hinges are on both the frame and the door and then cover them with a piece of painters tape. This would be the time to paint or refinish the insides of the cabinets while the doors are off.

Glad to hear that you got your woodburner fixed. Did someone mention as to when the pool is going to be put in and finished?

Thanks TerrieLacy! My new tupperware looks good in the cupboards! My most recent order should arrive soon so I can finish organizing everything!

Chuck, If I do try stripping and refinishing the cabinets, I'll definitely wait a bit. Thanks for all the tips!!

Lol... pool? Like that will ever happen! I do have a little plastic kiddie pool the previous owners left here - does that count?

I got curtains all done in the bathroom tonight! Yay! Of course, that was the easiest room to do - only one window in there!

Edited because I wrote "Chick" instead of "Chuck"! Sorry Chuck!

Now how are we supposed to have the Hooker/Quilter summer party without a pool?

I thought for sure you mentioned that in the purchase deal on the home!

Oh Well, guess we'll have to improvise something, hmmm like maybe turning the basement into a large swimming pool?

By the way, did you ever get your wandering pups back?

Lol... thanks for the laugh Chuck. I needed that this morning!

They did have it set up so that the outdoor wood burner could heat a pool (the owner before the last one had one), but I'm not ever going to be using that!

Please don't flood my basement!!! We could build a hillbilly pool in the back of the pickup if we put a big sheet of plastic in the bed and fill it with water! lol Would that work?

Yes, we did find our pups!!! I totally forgot to update on that. It was absolutely amazing... a true blessing. Someone called our old number (on the collars of our dogs) on the LAST day before that number would be disconnected. My sister happened to be there since she was working on moving in. She called me right away and we went to see if the dog they found was really our little beagle. It was him for sure! They had also seen our other dog. They took us out to show us where they saw her and she was there! But she was terrified and she wouldn't come to us. After 3 days of trying, we finally got her. Once I got close enough to her to grab her collar she just looked up at me like, "oh, mom, it's you." then immediately rolled over and wanted me to rub her belly! They're all settled in and have gained back the weight they lost. They now have new collars with the new addy and phone #, but so far they haven't been allowed outside without a leash. I have had them in the fenced in play area... but Case snuck out, so I have to repair the spot he's squeezing through before I can let them run in there. I hope to try and see if the underground dog fence works sometime in the near future so I can let them run around the 4 or so acres that it covers when we're home (I don't trust it to leave them out there if I'm at work). I'm so glad to be somewhere that we can finally do what's necessary to keep the dogs safe!

Just thought I'd give a little update.

We're fairly settled in now; although, I still have boxes to unpack and some work to do in the basement to get ready for hosting Easter here for my hubby's family.

We just finally met some of the neighbors today. They were very friendly and were very excited that we would have fresh eggs for sale! The two families we met actually offered to spread the word for us. I thought that was nice of them. We told them a little about our plans to sell our beef and pork eventually as well. The one neighbor's young grandson got a big smile on his face and started rubbing his belly because he said it all sounded good!

We bought some supplies this week so that we can start fencing in some of the pasture. Hopefully we can move our cows down here soon. We also got some of what we need to build our chicken tractor. My hubby is all about getting some more chickens as soon as the tractor is built since it sounds like we will have plenty of egg customers.

Here are some updated pictures of the house finally looking like a home!

It's so pretty!!!!! I love your curtains!!! I am a freak about plaid and no one else ever likes my plaid curtains---I even saved some left over material from mine and covered my lamp shades to match!!!

Congrats to you both and I think you are right to wait on the babies--You can enjoy them much more when you are ready and have all your ducks in a row. My husband and I waited 6 years and I wouldn't change it for anything!
